Job Overview

The Banker is a senior level position responsible for assisting clients in raising funds in the capital markets, as well as in providing strategic advisory services for mergers, acquisitions and other types of financial transactions in coordination with the Institutional Banking team. The Banker also serves as an intermediary in trading for clients. The overall objective of this role is to act as strategic advisor to our clients by formulating investment strategies and raising capital for clients.


Responsibilities:

  • Leverage past investment banking or related experience to enhance Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) execution and capital raising capabilities and contribute to building Citi's franchise
  • Meet revenue and other financial goals by establishing and maintaining a pipeline of episodic deals
  • Ensure that proposed client solutions meet or exceed internal risk and return standards, including stringent ethical standards,
  • Anticipate future changes in the marketplace
  • Identify and anticipate all types of risks (e.g. industry, portfolio, diversification, sovereign, commercial, currency, etc.)
  • Serve as a mentor to junior Bankers, execute staffing models that support business needs and career trajectories for junior staff
  • Build client relationships by providing sophisticated financial solutions tailored to the clients’ needs and acting as a content provider on market trends
  • Serve as the expert on regulatory, financial and complex strategic issues relating to corporate finance transactions
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Recommended Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in people management
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or closely related areas of Business Administration preferred
  • Master’s degree in business administration preferred
  • Experience working in an investment banking institution(s)
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated ability to remain unbiased in a diverse working environment
  • Series 79 and 63 licenses

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Leverage past investment banking or related experience to enhance Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) execution and capital raising capabilities and contribute to building Citi's franchise
  • Sectoral Experience: Candidates should demonstrate deep sector expertise and established client relationships in one or more of the following coverage areas relevant to the China onshore market:
  • Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT)
    • Proven track record advising TMT clients on M&A, equity capital markets (ECM), and strategic transactions, with strong connectivity to China's leading internet platforms, semiconductor, software, and new media companies
    • Deep understanding of the regulatory landscape governing China's technology sector, including data security, VIE structures, and cross-border listing considerations
  • Industrials
    • Experience covering China's advanced manufacturing, aerospace & defense, engineering, logistics, and industrial conglomerates, with a focus on domestic consolidation, outbound M&A, and capital raising mandates
    • Familiarity with China's industrial policy priorities, including "Made in China 2025," dual circulation strategy, and state-owned enterprise (SOE) reform
  • Financial Institutions Group (FIG)
    • Strong relationships with Chinese banks, insurance companies, asset managers, securities firms, and fintech players, with experience advising on capital optimization, M&A, and regulatory-driven transactions
    • Understanding of CBIRC/PBOC regulatory frameworks and their implications for FIG deal structuring and execution
  • Healthcare & Life Sciences
    • Coverage experience across pharmaceuticals, biotech, medical devices, CROs/CDMOs, and hospital groups, with a strong grasp of China's healthcare reform agenda and NMPA regulatory environment
    • Track record on healthcare IPOs, licensing deals, and cross-border partnerships involving Chinese and multinational healthcare companies
  • Natural Resources & Energy
    • Advisory experience in oil & gas, mining, metals, chemicals, and new energy (solar, wind, EV battery supply chain), with knowledge of China's energy transition policies and resource security strategy
    • Established relationships with major Chinese state-owned energy and resources enterprises (e.g., CNOOC, Sinopec, CNNC, Chinalco) as well as private sector players
  • Consumer & Retail
    • Deep sector knowledge across food & beverage, luxury goods, e-commerce, consumer staples, and lifestyle brands, with experience advising on brand acquisitions, retail consolidation, and cross-border consumer transactions
    • Understanding of evolving Chinese consumer trends, domestic brand emergence ("国潮"), and the competitive dynamics between domestic and international players
  • Additional Sector Considerations
    • Real Estate & Infrastructure: Experience with China's property developers, REITs, and infrastructure funds, navigating the post-deleveraging regulatory environment
    • Education & Government Services: Advisory background in the evolving regulatory landscape post-2021 sector restructuring
    • Automotive & New Energy Vehicles (NEV): Coverage of OEMs, EV supply chain, and smart mobility companies amid China's global NEV leadership push
  • 7+ years of China A-share sponsor-related experience in an investment banking front office role
  • Possess China sponsor representative license
  • Familiarity with CSRC/Exchanges/SAC rules
  • Secure and maintain all necessary CSRC licenses (or any other licenses / qualifications as required) for carrying out securities and other regulated activities
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English
  • Preference for HK SFC Type 6 licenses / qualifications
