Job Overview
The Digital S/W Engineer Sr Analyst is a seasoned professional role.
This role requires an in-depth understanding of Open Banking principles, regulatory landscapes, and API ecosystems. The successful candidate will apply their disciplinary knowledge to develop new techniques, improve processes, and integrate subject matter expertise within a defined area. They will evaluate complex and variable issues with substantial potential impact, weighing various alternatives and balancing potentially conflicting situations using multiple sources of information. Strong analytical, communication, and diplomacy skills are essential, as this role involves influencing decisions, leading teams informally and formally, and coaching new recruits. The work and performance of all related teams will be directly affected by the performance of this individual, with significant impact in terms of project size and strategic importance.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Analysis & Solution Design:
- Lead and drive the analysis, definition, and documentation of business requirements for Open Banking API initiatives, translating them into clear functional and non-functional specifications.
- Design comprehensive Open Banking API solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory compliance (e.g., PSD2, GDPR), and technical architecture standards.
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis of Open Banking standards, market trends, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities and inform strategic decisions.
- Evaluate moderately complex and variable issues related to Open Banking API implementation, identifying risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of supported main system flows and possess a comprehensive understanding of how Open Banking systems and others (i.e., architecture or infrastructure) collectively integrate to contribute towards achieving business objectives.
- API & Ecosystem Expertise:
- Serve as a subject matter expert for Open Banking APIs, providing guidance and insights on API design, security, performance, and scalability.
- Collaborate with technical teams (architects, developers) to ensure that API solutions are technically feasible, robust, and adhere to best practices for API development.
- Understand the technical requirements for Open Banking solutions, including those required to build, maintain, and operate the system through all phases of its life.
- Proficient in information modeling, data structures, and algorithms relevant to API design and data exchange in an Open Banking context.
- Understand maintenance characteristics, runtime properties, and dependencies that exist in support of Open Banking software, including hardware, platform, operating system, performance, load requirements, and contingencies with upstream and downstream systems.
- Project Leadership & Stakeholder Management:
- Accountable for executing and driving mid-size Open Banking API feature design and development efforts to completion, serving as a solution lead on medium-scale projects and supporting the execution of larger efforts.
- Proficient at operating with considerable autonomy and discretion, significantly influencing the way Open Banking applications are designed and developed by providing subject-specific expertise and an advanced level of understanding of API integration principles.
- Participate in design discussions as a Solution Lead, playing a key decision-making role in driving design decisions, evidenced by deep knowledge of Open Banking principles and experience with relevant technologies and engaged teams.
- Work with limited guidance, seeking guidance only as needed as the development and delivery strategy is defined; the design is not.
- Directly impact the business by influencing strategic functional decisions through advice, counsel, or provided services, requiring persuasion and influence through strong and comprehensive communication and diplomacy skills.
- Communicate progress, anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, identify, assess, track, and mitigate issues/risks at multiple levels for Open Banking initiatives.
- Recognize discordant views and take part in constructive dialogue to resolve them, fostering collaborative solutions.
- Process Improvement & Quality Assurance:
- Capable of researching root causes of API performance and design concerns, as well as the resolution of defects within the Open Banking ecosystem.
- Using expertise in Open Banking, assist with the development of standards for requirements gathering, design, testing, and implementation, ensuring solution design adheres to the overall architecture blueprint.
- Participate in the full development lifecycle, identifying dependencies between agile and waterfall delivery, working within broadly defined parameters, including test plan execution and software quality needs for Open Banking solutions.
- Work across teams to optimize processes related to Open Banking API development and consumption.
- Regularly review metrics and proactively seek out new and improved mechanisms for visibility, ensuring Open Banking programs stay aligned with organizational objectives.
- Continuously assess development processes, test plans, and operations for Open Banking initiatives.
- Streamline and/or eliminate excess process in any area of architecture, build, delivery, production operations environment, or business area where the same efforts (or issues) are repeated year-over-year in the Open Banking domain.
- Knowledge Sharing & Risk Management:
- Share knowledge with the team in various forums (brown bags, engineering forums, etc.) and demonstrate a higher level of knowledge through industry certifications.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency, particularly in the context of Open Banking.
Qualifications:
- 5-8 years in a product development/product management environment
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; Data driven and results-oriented
- Experience delivering with an agile methodology
- Experience in affecting large culture change
- Experience leading infrastructure programs
- Skilled at working with third party service providers
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience
