Job Overview

The Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst is an intermediate level position responsible for participation in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to applications systems analysis and programming activities.

We are seeking a forward-thinking Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst to join our engineering team. In this role, you will implement cutting-edge artificial intelligence, leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to build next-generation applications.

You will combine your growing AI expertise with a solid foundation in backend engineering, managing APIs, and optimizing database performance. If you are eager to work with modern developer tools, learn autonomous workflows, and build scalable solutions, this role is for you.

Responsibilities:

• AI Integration: Build and deploy applications powered by LLMs, integrating prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and basic agentic workflows.
• Context Ecosystems: Implement Model Context Protocol (MCP) to securely connect AI models with local or remote data sources and tools.
• API Development: Design, build, and maintain high-performance RESTful APIs to support application features.
• Database Management: Write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries, views, and schemas within Microsoft SQL Server.
• AI-Assisted Engineering: Adopt and utilize advanced autonomous AI software engineers (like Devin) to accelerate development, write tests, and streamline your workflow.

• Perform Integration work and L3 support for over 20+ vendor applications supporting the Tax Reporting, Tax Diligence, and Tax Withholding space. The role involves working with our vendor and internal TI and IT partners for the deployment and integration of the vendor tax apps with various Citi applications (primarily via API communication).
• Conduct tasks related to feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, risk technology, applications development, model development, and establish and implement new or revised applications systems and programs to meet specific business needs or user areas
• Monitor and control all phases of development process and analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation as well as provide user and operational support on applications to business users
• Utilize in-depth specialty knowledge of applications development to analyze complex problems/issues, provide evaluation of business process, system process, and industry standards, and make evaluative judgement
• Recommend and develop security measures in post implementation analysis of business usage to ensure successful system design and functionality
• Consult with users/clients and other technology groups on issues, recommend advanced programming solutions, and install and assist customer exposure systems
• Ensure essential procedures are followed and help define operating standards and processes
• Serve as advisor or coach to new or lower-level analysts
• Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
• Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
• Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

• 5-8 years of relevant experience
• LLM Experience: Hands-on experience integrating enterprise LLMs (e.g., OpenAI GPT, Anthropic Claude) via APIs using frameworks like LangChain or LlamaIndex.
• Model Context Protocol (MCP): Understanding of or direct experience implementing MCP to establish connections between AI models and context providers.
• API Development: 2–5 years of experience in backend API architecture, data validation, and security protocols.
• SQL Server: Strong proficiency in MS SQL Server, relational database design, and query performance tuning.
• Experience performing application integrations
• Experience in systems analysis and programming of software applications
• Experience in managing and implementing successful projects
• Working knowledge of consulting/project management techniques/methods
• Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements

Preferred & Plus Skills

• Devin/AI Agents: Familiarity or hands-on experience using Devin or similar autonomous coding platforms to augment coding speed is highly valued.
• .NET Ecosystem: Experience with C# and .NET Core/.NET 8+ for building enterprise-grade backend systems.
• Cloud & DevOps: Familiarity with AWS/Azure and basic CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Docker).
• JIRA experience a plus.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
