Job Overview
Citi Commercial Bank provides global and local banking capabilities and services from emerging to mid-sized corporates worldwide. The position is located in Prague, and it provides great opportunity to leverage on your interpersonal and relationship management skills in a professional environment working with internal and external clients in Western Europe and the UK.
As an Underwriter, you will have full oversight of the end-to-end credit process: credit risk monitoring and management, credit package preparations, and credit proposal review/approval. In this client-facing role you will co-operate with other divisions of the Bank, especially with the Sales, Risk and Product teams.
Job Purpose and Main Responsibilities:
Thoroughly prepare credit applications; check their completeness, request clarifications if necessary, and assess them in the context of valid and relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.
Prepare an independent credit opinion, negotiate and set conditions for credit approval and prepare the credit package for approval, identifying all required exceptions and escalations as per valid and relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.
Make competent credit decisions according to the assigned personal Credit Officer (CO) Limit and in line with relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.
Follow and monitor the portfolio of assigned clients through their lifecycle and proactively escalate all potential credit issues in a timely manner, acting as the First Line of Defense.
Effectively manage and closely monitor assigned classified customers, propose feasible account strategies to avoid or minimize potential losses, and prepare timely Classified Credit Memos (CCMs).
Prepare and/or approve credit packages within the required turnaround time (TAT) and within agreed-upon CLM pipeline rules. Provide timely services to internal and external customers.
Obtain and maintain a profound knowledge of all applicable local and global credit policies, procedures and guidelines. Be compliant and accountable for adherence to them. Act as a keeper of best practices, sharing and promoting them to actively cultivate the internal environment (Sales and CLM). Be ready to align and coordinate across the European clusters (CE4, Western Europe, the UK).
Further Key Responsibilities:
Participate in CLM tasks and requirements such as round tables, quarterly financial/covenant checks, regular and ad-hoc reporting, portfolio stress testing, audits, etc.
Communicate efficiently across the bank (Sales, Risk, Dox, Collateral, Credit Enablement, Legal, Operations, EW, and others).
Provide credit advice to more junior colleagues in CLM and Sales teams to build credit awareness and risk recognition in the bank and cultivate the lending management process.
Maintain strict confidentiality on all accounts, bank products and policies.
Qualifications and Competencies:
University degree.
At least 5 years of relevant banking experience (analytical, relationship management, EW, or remedial position) or another relevant position in a banking institution.
Very good knowledge of financial statements and financial analysis and accounting rules, primarily IFRS EU.
Deep understanding of bank products, collateral types, loan documentation standards, financial and non-financial covenants.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in another language (German, Italian, Spanish, or French) is highly desired.
A self-organized person with the ability to pay attention to detail and work under pressure.
Strong analytical thinking, a balanced risk-business approach, and the ability to apply common sense and make fast and competent decisions.
A team player who is a fast learner, flexible, precise, and has a positive attitude.
PC skills (MS Office) and a willingness to learn specific systems used within the Credit Approval area, and various internal AI tools.
