In-Business Risk & Control Officer (maternity cover)

Job Overview

This role leads the Risk and Controls function within the 1st Line of Defense for Bank Handlowy w Warszawie (Citi Handlowy), responsible for maintaining a high-quality risk and controls environment across the bank.

The role ensures the operationalization of Manager's Control Assessment (MCA) guidelines issued by the 2nd Line of Defense, leads the community of Operational Risk Coordinators, owns the MCA-related systems and governance frameworks, and represents Citi Handlowy in Citi's enterprise-wide R&C initiatives as a restricted entity.

Responsibilities: 

• Act as the Citi Handlowy Risk and Controls Head for the 1st Line of Defense, responsible for maintaining a high-quality risk and controls environment for the bank.
• Strengthen the risk management function within the 1st Line of Defense across identification, assessment, mitigation, monitoring and reporting.
• Oversee the country risk profile, ensuring robust control execution and adherence to regulatory standards.
• Operationalize 2nd Line MCA guidelines, establishing effective control designs and Key Risk Indicator (KRI) thresholds.
• Serve as Application Owner for MCA platforms, managing incident escalations and representing entity requirements in system enhancements.
• Manage end-to-end governance for the Business Risk, Compliance and Control Committee (BRCC), including charter ownership, agenda management, and quarterly executive reporting.
• Direct bank-wide Issue Management, conducting impact analysis, supporting timely remediation of complex issues and providing monthly reporting to BRCC.
• Own and administer the Citi Handlowy Escalation Policy, acting as the primary point of contact for operational and committee escalations.
• Lead and support the network of Operational Risk Coordinators across business units through continuous guidance and training.
• Represent Citi Handlowy in Citi’s global R&C initiatives, ensuring compliant adoption aligned with restricted-entity governance rules.

Qualifications & Skills: 

• Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred
• 10+ years of experience in Risk & Controls, Compliance, Operational Risk, or Audit within the financial services sector
• Proven track record in enhancing internal control environments, developing governance strategies, and driving process improvements
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build consensus across multi-disciplinary business lines and functions
• Excellent presentation and communication skills (verbal and written) to engage senior management and committees
• Analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with high attention to detail
• Demonstrated capability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Fluency in both English and Polish (spoken and written)
