Team / Role Overview:
The position is an important role supporting Independent Risk Management’s efforts to continue to enhance capabilities in climate risk stress testing. This role will be focused on the development and implementation of stress testing capabilities & associated risk analytics to support the measurement of potential financial impact of physical and transition risks across a range of short- and long- term scenarios on the bank’s portfolios. Working in close partnership with stakeholders across the risk organization, business lines and other functions, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the implementation, delivery and coordination of climate analytics & stress testing activities.
Climate risk has become a key focus area for the banking sector. A team has been established within Independent Risk Management charged with building out second line Climate Risk management capabilities, including risk identification, measurement and integrating these into governance and existing risk processes. This role will support ongoing enhancements to existing risk management capabilities in line with industry leading practises and standards and emerging regulatory expectations.
What you’ll do:
- Support initiatives to build out Climate Risk stress testing capabilities covering physical and transition Risks, including assessments of emerging Climate Risk scenarios, climate stress testing industry practices and supervisory expectations, and the ongoing associated enhancements to in-house capabilities.
- Responsible for performing detailed analysis to review and challenge climate analytics and scenario analysis results as required, with focus on but not limited to financial analysis of corporates impacted by climate and environmental risks and related transmission channels.
- Drive development of impactful and action-driven climate scenario analysis reporting to better engage with key stakeholders and senior management in the various stages of the process, from the scenario design and selection, through the review and challenge process and end-to-end governance.
- Ensure climate analytics and scenario analysis activities incorporate internal and regulatory requirements across use cases with the objective to integrate them into the bank's overall risk management practices.
- Coordinate across key stakeholder groups across risk, including Risk ID, modelling groups, reporting, and governance teams to develop and manage end to end stress testing processes.
- Support the delivery of regulatory climate scenario analysis and stress testing exercises as they emerge (e.g. Europe / UK / Asia); contribute to related regulatory deliverables (e.g. regulatory enquiries, on-site exams) working with the broader Climate Risk team
- Drive operational excellence and implementation of strong governance & controls to ensure repeatability of key processes and improve efficiency.
What we’ll need from you:
- Academic degree in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Environmental Science or analytical field is preferred and 5-8 years relevant equivalent working experience in financial services industry.
- Good understanding of stress testing methodologies and ability to link economic risk factors and market data to the risk management framework.
- Good familiarity with the increasing regulatory expectations facing banks with respect to climate and environmental risk. Experience in dealing with and delivery of regulatory projects.
- Proven ability to partner and collaborate across an organisation, excellent influencing, facilitation, and partnering skills, with the ability to build relationships, partner effectively and build a strong internal network across functions and throughout the global network at all levels of the organisation.
- Strong quantitative and spreadsheet skills, with the ability to analyse, work with, interpret and present large amount of data in a readily digestible format using the latest charting/diagrammatic presentation techniques.
- Strong PowerPoint and writing skills to manage and deliver strategic presentations.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively in a high-volume and complex environment with changing priorities with a practical solutions-driven approach.
- Strong written and oral communications skills, with a commanding and convincing delivery and the ability to synthesize complex concepts, translate into ‘user friendly’ language and effectively present in long-form documents or slide format.
- Strong tenacity and resilient under pressure and self-motivated in a fast paced and demanding environment. Highly engaged, strong attention to detail, and outcome oriented.
