Team/Role Overview
The Global Communications team is a nimble group in Enterprise Services and Public Affairs (ESPA) that covers a broad scope of responsibilities, ranging from executive communications and public engagements to quarterly earnings and corporate reputation programs as well as communications that support our lines of business. The nature of the work provides a dynamic environment where members of the team serve as company spokespeople to media, drive engagement with colleagues and develop external and internal digital communications for a global workforce.
The team works with many internal partners, including senior leadership, and regularly coordinates closely with other members of the ESPA team across the world.
As VP Communications, you will report to the Head of Communications and Public Affairs for Canada and be responsible for supporting the development and execution of proactive external and internal communications for Citi in Canada. Your role will involve working with our teams in Canada to enhance and protect the reputation of Citi, its businesses and the brand in the market through communication with Citi's various stakeholders, external and internal. You will also work with various teams across the organization globally.
What you’ll do
- External Communications: Executing on Canada's external communications strategy and plans; managing proactive engagement with key media outlets; developing messaging, briefing documents and speaking notes for senior executives; developing and amplifying brand activities and events in the external market; identifying opportunities and continuously building a strong pipeline of media and social media activity. This includes supporting media engagement activities (relationship building, press releases, media pitches, monitoring media coverage and relevant news angles, trends and events), strengthening and communicating Citi's employer brand within the Canadian market, and assisting with the preparation and organization of client and external events.
- Internal Communications and Engagement: Developing and executing internal engagement plans and initiatives; planning and managing internal communications channels and content; planning and managing employee engagement events; developing content for events. This also involves liaising with relevant internal stakeholders to plan and manage internal communications channels and content calendars, including newsletters and intranet, and managing community affairs programs.
- Administrative Tasks: Manage administrative tasks (contracts, invoices, payments, risk and control processes, etc.) to be compliant with all Citi policies.
What we’ll need from you
- Professional experience in Communications and Public Relations, either in-house or agency, preferred. Ideally, 5+ years of experience in communications within the financial sector or a complex multinational organization.
- Comprehensive understanding and a proven track record in media relations and stakeholder engagement.
- A strong leader with excellent planning and project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust priorities as needed.
- Excellent communications skills – editing, writing and digital communications skills; experience in content creation for internal and external purposes.
- Social media content development experience and strong working knowledge of major social media platforms.
- Creativity and an ability to show initiative; strong relationship management skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business management, communications, marketing or related field.
- Language skills: Fluency in English is required. French fluency would be a strong plus.
