Discover your future at Citi

Working at Citi is far more than just a job. A career with us means joining a team of approximately 219,000 dedicated people from around the globe. At Citi, you’ll have the opportunity to grow your career, give back to your community and make a real impact.

Job Overview

Citi is seeking a Director for the Technology, Operations & Privacy Legal Team to lead an international team of attorneys delivering legal counsel on technology transactions, third-party contracting, and enterprise client data management. In this senior role, you will directly negotiate and advise stakeholders on complex technology agreements, advise Citi's client organization team on client data management matters across the enterprise, and shape contracting strategy alongside senior business and functional leaders. Sitting within Citi's Enterprise Advisory Legal function, this position carries team leadership responsibility and plays a central role in enabling business innovation through sound legal guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a legal advisor to Citi's global client organization team on client data management matters, providing counsel on how client data is governed, shared, and used across the enterprise.

  • Deliver legal support, advice, and guidance across a broad range of practice areas, including technology transactions, third-party contracting, and specialized matters such as artificial intelligence, credit bureaus and ATM services.

  • Lead the negotiation and drafting of complex technology agreements, so that Citi's contracting positions are defensible, commercially sound, and aligned with applicable law.

  • Advise senior business and functional stakeholders on legal matters spanning technology transactions, data sharing parameters, and third-party contract arrangements, translating complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance.

  • Manage and mentor a team of attorneys, setting clear direction, evaluating performance, and supporting professional development to sustain a high-performing legal function.

  • Partner with Risk, Compliance, and business leadership to identify and address legal and regulatory risks associated with third party relationships, technology initiatives, and strategic business decisions.

  • Coordinate across lines of business and internal legal teams to deliver consistent, efficient outcomes on third-party service provider arrangements and collaborative commercial agreements.

  • Participate in risk review forums and strategic planning sessions, applying legal expertise to evaluate and advise upon issues that could carry financial, reputational, or regulatory consequences for Citi.

  • Handle novel issues, often on an urgent basis, by applying a pragmatic business approach and general legal principles to quickly review bespoke agreements and issues outside core area of expertise.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 10 or more years of contract negotiation and drafting experience, with a clear focus on technology transactions and in-house legal advisory work.

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, with a bar license in good standing to practice law in the assigned jurisdiction.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of legal professionals.

  • Track record of advising on and closing complex commercial deals, including the ability to identify legal risk, develop practical recommendations, and negotiate effectively with senior counterparts.

  • Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal matters into crisp, business-ready guidance for senior stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, maintaining sound judgement and clear prioritization across competing demands

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with financial institutions and/or financial markets preferred.

  • Familiarity with enterprise data management, governance frameworks, or client data sharing arrangements in a regulated environment.

  • Experience operating within a large organization, with a demonstrated ability to build relationships and align stakeholders across functions and business lines.

What We Offer

This role offers the opportunity to take on significant legal ownership at one of the world's leading financial institutions, working at the intersection of technology law, client data management, and enterprise risk.  You will advise across a varied and technically complex portfolio — from large-scale technology agreements to more specialized matters — in an environment that rewards sharp thinking, sound judgement, and the ability to deliver under pressure.

  • A hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely, providing flexibility while maintaining strong team connection.

  • Strategic leadership scope.

  • A seat at the table in enterprise-wide legal and business planning discussions, with direct access to senior stakeholders across Citi's global client management and functional teams.

  • Access to Citi's global network of legal and business professionals, enabling collaboration and knowledge-sharing across jurisdictions and business lines.

  • A broad and intellectually stimulating practice spanning technology and operations, including exposure to specialized and emerging areas, such as artificial intelligence.
