Job Overview
Citi is looking for a Equity Research Analyst to take primary coverage responsibility for a portfolio of stocks within the global energy sector, producing high-conviction investment research that directly informs institutional clients and shapes market perspectives. In this role, you will sit within Citi's equity research division, combining deep sector expertise with financial modelling discipline and direct client engagement to deliver research that moves markets. This is an opportunity for an ambitious, self-driven analyst to establish themselves as a recognized authority in energy sector research at a leading global financial institution.
Responsibilities
- Take primary coverage responsibility for a defined portfolio of energy sector stocks, producing original investment research and maintaining up-to-date financial models and valuation frameworks.
- Author research reports and investment notes that distil complex macroeconomic and company-level analysis into a clear, investable thesis for institutional audiences.
- Conduct macroeconomic analysis of the global energy industry, identifying structural trends and translating findings into actionable investment recommendations.
- Communicate research ideas and sector views directly to institutional clients through written publications, phone calls, and client marketing trips.
- Arrange and facilitate direct corporate access for investors, including company visits, management meetings, and participation in industry conferences.
- Track company events, earnings releases, and sector developments to ensure coverage is timely, accurate, and consistently positioned ahead of market moves.
- Collaborate with Citi's broader product team to surface and develop emerging trends within the energy space, contributing to cross-functional research initiatives.
- Operate within applicable regulatory frameworks, maintaining required licences and upholding compliance standards in all research output and client interactions.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Advanced proficiency in English, both written and spoken; CV must be submitted in English.
- Between 6 - 10 years of relevant experience in equity research, investment analysis, or a closely related field within financial services.
- Demonstrated ability to build detailed financial models and apply rigorous valuation techniques to support investment recommendations.
- Experience writing research reports or investment notes that translate analytical findings into a coherent, client-ready investment thesis.
- Ability to engage institutional investors and internal stakeholders effectively through both written communication and direct client marketing activity.
- Ability to facilitate and coordinate direct corporate access, including managing relationships with company management teams and investor contacts.
- Holds or is prepared to secure and maintain the regulatory licences required to provide independent, regulated investment research.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent university qualification.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
- Master's degree or postgraduate qualification in finance, economics, or a related discipline.
- Prior coverage experience within the energy sector or demonstrable knowledge of global energy markets and macroeconomic dynamics.
- Established network of institutional investor or corporate management contacts within the energy space.
