Job Overview
Job Description: DevOps Engineer / Specialist (Java & Spring Boot Preferred)
Role Overview
The DevOps Engineer / Specialist is an intermediate to senior technical role responsible for designing, building, automating, and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployment infrastructure, and cloud/on-premise platforms in coordination with the Technology and Application Development teams.
This role bridges the gap between software development and IT operations to drive automated software delivery, continuous integration, release management, infrastructure-as-code, and operational reliability. A strong development background or technical familiarity with Java and Spring Boot microservices is preferred to effectively support, troubleshoot, and optimize application lifecycle workflows.
Key Responsibilities
CI/CD & Pipeline Automation
Design, implement, and maintain scalable Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines across multi-tier environments.
Standardize and automate build, test, artifact packaging, and deployment workflows using modern pipeline automation tooling.
Facilitate zero-downtime deployment strategies (e.g., Blue-Green, Canary deployments) and automated rollback mechanisms.
Application Lifecycle & Developer Enablement (Java & Spring Boot)
Collaborate closely with software engineering teams to optimize the build, packaging, and runtime configuration of Java and Spring Boot applications.
Troubleshoot build lifecycle issues, dependency management conflicts (Maven/Gradle), JVM runtime configurations, and microservice container deployment bottlenecks.
Champion standard DevOps practices and guide development teams in building cloud-native, observable, and easily deployable applications.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Container Orchestration
Provision, configure, and maintain scalable infrastructure utilizing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) frameworks (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
Manage and support containerized workloads on orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes / OpenShift.
Author and maintain Helm charts, Kubernetes manifests, and container configurations adhering to enterprise standards.
DevSecOps, Governance & Compliance
Embed security controls and automated vulnerability/code scanning tools (e.g., SonarQube, Snyk, Checkmarx) directly into the deployment pipelines.
Ensure strict adherence to change management, release governance, audit compliance, and access management policies.
Appropriately assess risk when technical and operational decisions are made, safeguarding organizational data and systems by driving compliance with applicable enterprise standards, laws, and policies.
Monitoring, Observability & Reliability
Implement comprehensive monitoring, centralized logging, and alerting systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk/ELK) to ensure platform health and application performance.
Participate in incident management, technical troubleshooting, root-cause analyses (RCA), and production issue resolution.
Recommended Qualifications
Professional Experience
9-12years of relevant technology experience with a proven track record in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or build/release automation.
Demonstrated experience building and operating enterprise-grade CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
Technical & Engineering Skills
Java & Framework Knowledge (Preferred): Practical understanding of Java (8/11/17+) and Spring Boot ecosystems, including build tools (Maven, Gradle), multi-module builds, dependency management, and JVM performance basics.
Containerization & Orchestration: Strong hands-on experience with Docker/Podman and Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift.
CI/CD Platforms: Proficiency with pipeline tools (e.g., Jenkins, Tekton, Harness, GitLab CI/CD, or GitHub Actions).
Infrastructure as Code & Configuration Management: Proven experience with Terraform, Ansible, and Helm.
Scripting & Automation: Strong scripting proficiency in Bash/Shell, Python, or Groovy.
Observability: Experience configuring and working with monitoring and logging platforms (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Dynatrace, ELK).
Security & Quality Gates: Familiarity with static/dynamic code analysis (SAST/DAST), artifact repositories (Artifactory/Nexus), and secret management solutions (e.g., HashiCorp Vault).
Soft Skills & Leadership
Strong analytical and troubleshooting mindset with the ability to solve complex, distributed system problems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional development, architecture, infrastructure, and operations teams.
High degree of ownership, self-motivation, and ability to drive automation initiatives independently.
