Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Engineering Manager to lead a core backend engineering team for the Citi Integrated Digital Assets Platform (CIDAP). This is a leadership role for a hands-on manager who will guide a team of highly skilled Java developers in building the next generation of financial market infrastructure.

The ideal candidate is a leader who combines deep technical expertise in enterprise-grade backend systems with a passion for mentoring engineers and driving execution excellence. You will be responsible for your team's technical strategy, delivery, and operational health, while also fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. While you will have management responsibilities, you are expected to remain close to the technology, contributing to architectural decisions, code reviews, and technical guidance.
A strong foundation in building scalable, resilient web applications is essential. While prior experience in web3 is not mandatory, a genuine interest and understanding of blockchain technology and digital assets will be key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership and Development:Lead, mentor, and manage a team of backend engineers. Manage performance, provide regular feedback, and support the career growth and development of your team members.
- Technical Execution and Delivery:Take full ownership of the team's end-to-end delivery. Drive the execution of the product roadmap, ensuring the successful and timely release of high-quality, scalable, and secure services.
- Architectural Guidance:Partner with senior architects and product managers to design and implement robust solutions. Guide your team in making sound architectural decisions and solving complex engineering challenges.
- Engineering Excellence:Champion and enforce engineering best practices, including robust testing, comprehensive code reviews, and the use of modern design patterns. Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:Act as the key technical partner for your domain. Communicate effectively with product managers, business stakeholders, and other engineering teams to ensure alignment and translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Operational Ownership:Drive operational excellence for the services your team builds. Take responsibility for the health, performance, and reliability of your applications in production, and help resolve/escalate issues as they arise.
- Hiring and Growth:Play a key role in attracting, hiring, and retaining top engineering talent to build a high-performing and diverse team.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; advanced degree (MS, PhD) is a plus.
- Experience:15+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a proven history of delivering complex, large-scale commercial software products.
- Leadership:At least 4-5 years of experience in a formal engineering management or team leadership role with direct people management responsibilities.
- Backend Expertise: 8+ years of hands-on expertise in backend development using Java and frameworks like Spring/Spring Boot.
- System Design:Demonstrable experience designing and building scalable, resilient, and high-performance web applications, including expertise in asynchronous programming and communication patterns.
- Financial Services experience is a significant plus.
- Web3 Familiarity (Preferred):Experience or strong familiarity with the web3 ecosystem (e.g., Web3J, Web3JS, Solidity) and its design patterns is a major advantage.
- Agile Methodologies:Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.

- Problem Solver:A proactive and resourceful problem-solver with the ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaboration:A strong team player with a proven ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
- Tools:Expertise in modern software development tools such as Git, Jira, and Jenkins.

As a member of the Citi Integrated Digital Assets Platform engineering team, you will have to opportunity to work with a team of highly motivated, T-shaped, smart individuals who think out of the box and look for disruptive opportunities for commercial benefit.
Exposure to newly released and upcoming technologies and the ability to positively contribute to the strategies of the business. By working within the senior leadership team you will be highly visible across Citi and will have access to Citi’s executive management team.

$176,720.00 - $265,080.00
