Balance Sheet Controls & Substantiation Analyst
The Balance Sheet Controls & Substantiation Analyst role serves as a member of the Global Lending Operations Team within SMB&IC Operations. The Accounting BS Controls & Substantiation Team is responsible for monitoring processes and controls which ensure accuracy and completeness of data and balances that feed Citi’s Financial Statements. The role holder will perform daily and monthly Balance Sheet Control processes to substantiate general ledger & subledger balances, reconcile subledger activity to the general ledger to ensure both systems are In-Sync, and prepare\record journal entries. This additionally includes performing operational metrics such and data analytics, creating & enhancing controls\reconciliations, creating\updating procedure documentations, and working closely with key stakeholders in resolving accounting breaks within the multiple reporting systems.
The role holder will engage globally within Lending Operations & Finance, In-Business & Independent Risk and Control, and Lending Operations Stakeholders relating to matters including but not limited to management of issues including Corrective Action Plans, monitoring emerging risk trends and controls oversight, and translation of emerging risk trends and themes into training, operational procedures, and further corrective action plans.
Responsibilities:
- Performs general ledger & sub ledger reconciliations to source system data to ensure all ledger systems reconcile and data in accounts pertain to global loans activity only.
- Monitors & substantiates balance sheet accounts in accordance with Citi’s Balance Sheet Substantiation Policy.
- Performs account reconciliations to monitor and resolve unclassified ledger transactions in the general ledger and sub-ledger.
- Prepares & records accounting journal entries into the general ledger and sub-ledger.
- Applies judgment when interpreting data, preparing reports, and presents findings to management.
- Makes resolution recommendations based on identified trends and facts.
- Designs and analyzes custom reports & processes to satisfy management requirements around control activities.
- Participates in and supports the implementation of projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Interprets data and makes recommendations on how to resolve issues around reconciling items.
- Minimizes risk to the bank through a solid understanding of procedural requirements - provides solutions to reduce errors, and to adhere to audit and control policies. Serves as a checker for systematic transactions as a last line of defense.
- Provides informal guidance and/or on-the-job-training to new team members.
- Works closely with own team and internal stakeholders to meet client needs.
Skills: Must have
- 2-5+ years of relevant industry experience (preferred a subject matter expert in Loan Operations, Accounting, or Finance).
- Experience in creating reports, decks, data dashboards, graphs and visualizations and delivering senior executive-level presentations. Extensive experience utilizing Microsoft Office (MS PowerPoint, MS Word and MS Excel) is required.
- Demonstrated ability to track delivery of multiple priorities across multiple owners.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information, translate into business goals, and drive results with a high sense of urgency and ownership.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing and written/verbal communications skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and multi-task with a sense of urgency.
- Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement.
Qualifications:
- 2-5 years relevant experience in Lending Ops, Product Control, Finance, or Accounting
- General Ledger Experience preparing & recording accounting entries
- Expert in Excel and most Microsoft Office products.
- Can work well under pressure and multi-task with a sense of urgency
- Ability to collaborate with team members within and outside of own team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with subledger and ledger reconciliations
- Experience with Flexcube and/or LoanIQ
- Experience with eRecon and/or Fullsuite
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (Accounting preferred) or Associates Degree (Accounting preferred ) with related experience..

$61,870.00 - $86,330.00
