We’re currently looking for a high caliber professional to join our team as Commercial Bank Underwriter / Credit Risk Manager, Senior Vice President based in Mumbai, India.
The Underwriter/ Credit Risk Group Manager is accountable for management of complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas. Leads and directs a team of professionals. Requires a comprehensive understanding of multiple areas within a function and how they interact in order to achieve the objectives of the function.
Applies in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions. Generally accountable for delivery of a full range of services to one or more businesses/ geographic regions. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level.
Accountable for the end results of an area. Exercises control over resources, policy formulation and planning. Primarily affects a sub-function. Involved in short- to medium-term planning of actions and resources for own area. Full management responsibility of a team or multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning, to include performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations and budget approval.
This role covers mainly the North Asia Market and is part of the Commercial Lending Management Unit that falls under the Institutional Credit Management (ICM) umbrella. ICM is an in-business, first line of defense (1LoD) function within Citi, dedicated to end-to-end wholesale credit risk (WCR) management. ICM covers numerous products, clusters and lines of businesses (LoBs) – all while providing the controls and support necessary to help reduce Citi’s risks.
In this role, you’re expected to:
- Interface with and support bankers in underwriting requests for commercial credit extensions for new and existing clients with ownership responsibilities for sound credit decisions and compliance with internal procedures/credit risk policy guidelines and standards.
- Provide preliminary analysis of simple to complex credits, including calculation of cash flow, debt service coverage, collateral coverage, and guarantor net worth.
- Prepare a detailed written credit summary of commercial borrowers requesting credit by analyzing the business, interpreting the financing need, identifying the strengths and prevailing risk factors and rendering a final credit decision.
- Perform detailed financial analysis on companies, including trend and ratio analysis, and interpret the financial information.
- Perform credit and personal/corporate financial statement analysis on individuals, guarantors, and co-borrowers in order to assess repayment capacity based on cash flow statements, tax returns, and statements.
- Perform industry and geographical research and other due diligence as needed.
- Manages teams that deliver a consistent, goals and sophisticated process of underwriter review.
- Identifies credit risk, process trends and training needs within the body of underwriting work completed each month.
- Assures precise and adequate sampling of underwriters’ work to make accurate assessments of underwriter decision making.
- Evaluates the process of underwriter performance review to encapsulate all relevant decision making and calculations in the review.
- Provides for competent discourse of rebuttals to variances and quick resolution of risk issues in loan originations.
- Maintain a solid understanding of Citibank products and services - within the Commercial Bank and the broader organization.
- Maintain compliance with Citibank credit policies/practices and regulatory policies, to ensure business unit is in adherence to the above and receives satisfactory ratings from internal and external auditors.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency
Qualifications:
- 10 years prior experience in credit risk management or equivalent training and experience preferably in the financial services industry.
- The ideal candidate must have extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP) accounting, financial regulations, financial products, and credit analysis
- Ability to apply credit and risk principles toward business goals.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize, prioritize and drive results with a high sense of urgency.
- Must be highly organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple projects and possess effective.
- Interpersonal, organizational and analytic skills.
- Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience
