Job Overview

Citi is looking for a Senior Data Engineer at Vice President level to design and lead high-performance data warehouse solutions that power critical business decisions across a global financial institution. In this role, you will serve as a technical authority within the engineering team, driving the architecture, development, and optimization of enterprise-scale database systems built on SQL Server. Your work will directly shape the reliability and performance of data infrastructure relied upon by technology and business teams across Citi.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable database solutions using SQL Server, ensuring the data warehouse platform meets evolving business requirements.

  • Build and optimize complex stored procedures, triggers, and user-defined functions that underpin core business applications and reporting workflows.

  • Tune database performance by identifying and resolving bottlenecks, monitoring system behavior, and implementing targeted improvements to support production-grade workloads.

  • Develop and maintain ETL pipelines to extract, load, and transform data from multiple source systems into the data warehouse, ensuring accuracy and reliability at scale.

  • Design logical and physical data models that translate business requirements into robust, maintainable database structures.

  • Partner with application developers, business analysts, and cross-functional stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver database solutions that address real business needs.

  • Define and enforce standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation to maintain consistency and quality across the engineering team.

  • Mentor and support mid-level engineers and analysts, providing technical direction and allocating work to maximize team effectiveness.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 6+ years of experience in application development, systems analysis, or a closely related data engineering discipline.

  • Deep expertise in SQL Server database development, including stored procedures, triggers, user-defined functions, and query optimization.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement ETL processes that integrate data from diverse sources into a data warehouse environment.

  • Proven capability in data modeling, encompassing both logical and physical design to meet complex business requirements.

  • Track record of delivering and managing successful technology projects from requirement definition through to production deployment.

  • Subject matter expertise in at least one area of application or database development, with the ability to apply that knowledge to solve high-impact technical problems.

  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is advantageous.

  • Experience working within large-scale enterprise data warehouse platforms, particularly in financial services or similarly regulated environments.

  • Familiarity with data integrity frameworks, including constraint design, validation rules, and governance best practices.

  • Exposure to architecture and infrastructure concepts that inform how data systems integrate within broader enterprise technology ecosystems.

What We Offer

At Citi, you will work at the intersection of technology and global finance, solving complex data engineering challenges that have real impact at scale. This is an opportunity to take technical ownership within a high-performing team, contribute to enterprise-wide data infrastructure, and grow your career in a collaborative, performance-driven environment.

  • A hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely, giving you flexibility alongside meaningful in-person collaboration.

  • Senior-level ownership of technical delivery, with the autonomy to shape database architecture and engineering standards across the platform.

  • Access to learning and development resources that support continuous technical growth and career progression.

  • The opportunity to mentor and develop the next generation of engineers, building leadership capability alongside technical expertise.

  • Wellbeing and financial support programmes designed to help you thrive both professionally and personally.

  • Exposure to global teams and large-scale systems, working on data infrastructure that operates at the heart of one of the world's leading financial institutions.
