UI Developer

We are seeking a highly experienced and versatile Backend UI Developer to lead the design, development, and implementation of modern, distributed application systems, blending robust frontend user interfaces with scalable backend microservices. This role requires deep expertise in both UI development using React and JavaScript, and backend development leveraging J2EE, Java, and microservices architecture with Spring Boot. You will play a key role in shaping our full-stack strategy, collaborating with multiple teams to ensure seamless integration and drive innovation within our technology landscape. This role specifically targets candidates with a strong command of React, JavaScript, Java, and proven experience building and deploying both user interfaces and Java-based microservices.

Responsibilities:

• Frontend UI Development: Design, develop, and implement engaging and responsive user interfaces using React, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, ensuring a seamless user experience.
• Backend Microservices Development: Design, develop, and implement Java-based microservices using Spring Boot, leveraging its features for building robust and scalable services that power our UI.
• Full-Stack Architecture: Architect and implement end-to-end solutions, integrating React-based frontends with J2EE/Java microservices, considering factors such as API design, inter-service communication, and data consistency.
• Collaboration & Integration: Partner with product management, UX designers, and other development teams to integrate UI components and backend Java microservices into existing infrastructure, ensuring seamless data flow and optimal performance.
• Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical leadership in both UI (React) and backend (Java microservices) development, guiding other engineers on best practices, promoting efficient development strategies, and mentoring mid-level developers and analysts.
• Problem Solving: Resolve high-impact problems and lead complex projects, applying your expertise in React, JavaScript, Java, and microservices to develop effective solutions.
• Coding Standards: Develop and maintain coding standards, testing procedures, and debugging techniques specifically for React UIs and Java microservices.
• Overall Architecture Contribution: Contribute to the overall architecture, ensuring that UI and Java microservices solutions align with business goals and integrate effectively with other technologies.
• Innovative Solutions: Provide in-depth analysis and apply interpretive thinking to define technical issues and develop innovative solutions using a combined UI and Java microservices approach.
• Platform Design: Design and architect React-based user experiences and Java-based backend solutions using the latest advancements in microservices architecture and related technologies, including containerization platforms like ECS, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
• Performance Optimization: Optimize both UI and Java microservices for performance, scalability, and resilience, addressing issues related to distributed systems and frontend rendering.
• Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems in UI and Java microservices deployments, demonstrating expertise in identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
• Quality Assurance: Apply test-driven development (TDD) methodologies and other relevant testing strategies for both UI components and Java microservices to ensure high-quality code and robust functionality.
• Security: Ensure the security of both frontend and backend components by implementing appropriate authentication, authorization, and security measures, considering the distributed nature of the system.
• Risk Assessment & Compliance: Appropriately assess risk when making technical decisions, considering the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets. Drive compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to company policies and demonstrating sound ethical judgment.

Qualifications:

• Experience: 4+ years of hands-on experience in UI (React, JavaScript) and J2EE/Java backend development, with a significant emphasis on microservices architecture.
• Frontend Expertise: Deep expertise in designing, developing, and deploying modern web applications using React and JavaScript.
• Backend Expertise: Deep expertise in designing, developing, and deploying Java-based microservices using Spring Boot.
• Core Java: Strong command of core Java concepts and principles.
• API Integration: Proven experience with RESTful API design and consumption, ensuring seamless communication between frontend and backend.
• Microservices Patterns: Experience with service discovery tools (e.g., Eureka, Consul) and inter-service communication patterns and technologies (e.g., message queues, event streaming) in a Java environment.
• Containerization: Good understanding of containerization technologies (ECS, Kubernetes, OpenShift) and their role in deploying both UI and Java Microservices.
• API Management: Experience with API gateways and management tools.
• Agile Methodologies: Experience working in an agile environment using Scrum methodologies.
• Performance Optimization: Expertise in designing and optimizing both UI and Java software solutions for performance and stability in a microservices context.
• Troubleshooting: Expertise in troubleshooting and problem-solving in distributed UI and Java systems.
• Testing: Expertise in test-driven development (TDD) and other testing strategies for UI and Java microservices.
• Security: Expertise in authentication, authorization, and security best practices for both frontend and Java microservices.
• Leadership: Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
• Adaptability: Ability to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with other JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Angular, Vue.js).
• Expertise in SQL/NoSQL databases, and caching solutions within a Java environment.
• Experience with distributed tracing and monitoring tools for UI and Java Microservices.
• Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for full-stack applications.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience.
