Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Vice President to serve as a Relationship Manager on the Citi Mid-Corp Natural Resources (Energy) team in Houston or Dallas. This is an individual contributor role designed for a seasoned energy finance professional ready to take ownership of client relationships, lead transaction execution, and drive business development across a dynamic and evolving sector. The Citi Mid-Corp Natural Resources team covers a mix of public and private primarily North American-based companies in the Upstream (E&P) and Midstream Oil & Gas, as well as Power, Utilities, and Clean Energy Transition sectors. The VP will play a central leadership role within deal teams, acting as the primary point of accountability between senior bankers, clients, and internal partners — while also mentoring and developing junior talent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Ownership: Lead coverage of a portfolio of clients owned by senior bankers / yourself, serving as a relationship contact and coordinating deal teams comprised of Analysts, Associates, and senior Credit Officers
  • Business Development: Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities within the energy sector; originate and expand client relationships by leveraging deep industry knowledge and an established network across E&P, Midstream, Power, and Clean Energy
  • Transaction Leadership: Own and drive all facets of deal execution, including in-depth financial analysis, complex financial modeling, risk analysis, credit structuring, and due diligence for new and existing clients; serve as the senior reviewer and decision-maker on transaction deliverables
  • Client Relationship Management: Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, independently managing relationships and anticipating client needs; lead client meetings, pitches, and strategic dialogues with minimal oversight from senior bankers
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with and coordinate across internal teams — including Capital Markets, M&A, Technical Advisory, Loan Structuring & Syndications, Commodities, Treasury & Trade Services, and Operations — to deliver integrated, customized financial solutions that meet clients' evolving needs
  • Team Leadership & Development: Mentor, train, and develop junior Analysts and Associates on the team; provide constructive feedback, model best practices, and contribute to a high-performance team culture
  • Industry Expertise: Lead detailed company research and sector analysis to identify key trends, risks, and opportunities within the energy landscape, including the energy transition; proactively share market intelligence with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Risk Management & Compliance: Serve as a steward of sound risk management practices; appropriately assess risk in all business decisions with particular consideration for the firm's reputation and the safeguarding of the bank, its clients, and assets. Drive compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhere to Policy, apply sound ethical judgment, and escalate, manage, and report control issues with full transparency

Qualifications

  • 6–10 years of experience in energy corporate / commercial banking, with demonstrated progression of responsibility
  • Deep theoretical and practical knowledge of Oil & Gas companies — including Upstream (E&P) and Midstream — and the broader energy industry, including Power, Utilities, and Clean Energy Transition
  • Proven track record of independently managing client relationships and leading transaction execution from origination through close
  • Exceptional financial modeling skills and quantitative analytical ability; MS Excel and PowerPoint proficiency is expected at an expert level
  • Strong credit acumen with experience structuring complex credit facilities, reserve-based lending (RBL), and/or capital markets transactions
  • Abilit
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present confidently to senior clients and internal stakeholders
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with experience managing or mentoring junior team members
  • Active FINRA Series 63 and Series 79 licenses required (or ability to obtain within 150 days of joining); SIE required
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree a plus
