About the Team

Enterprise Services and Public Affairs seeks to enhance and protect the reputation of Citi, its businesses and the brand through direct and indirect communication with Citi's various stakeholders, including our colleagues. The Global Communications team is a nimble group in Enterprise Services and Public Affairs that covers a broad scope of responsibilities, ranging from executive communications and public engagements to quarterly earnings and corporate reputation programs as well as communications that support our lines of business. The nature of the work provides a dynamic environment where members of the team serve as company spokespeople to media, drive engagement with colleagues and develop external and internal digital communications for a global workforce of more than 200,000 colleagues. Within Citi, the team works with many internal partners, including senior leadership, and regularly coordinates closely with other members of the Enterprise Services and Public Affairs team across the world.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Communications Director to lead our corporate communications strategy for Citi Mexico. This individual will be responsible for protecting and enhancing Citi's reputation, ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms, and effectively communicating our corporate narrative to internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with a deep understanding of the financial services industry, proven track record in media relations, crisis management, executive communications, and social media strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and Execute Communication Strategies: Design and implement comprehensive, integrated communication plans that align with Citi's business objectives and enhance the company's brand and reputation.
  • Media Relations: Serve as a primary spokesperson for the company. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key journalists, and editors in financial and business media. Proactively pitch Citi’s stories, manage media inquiries and secure positive coverage.
  • Internal Communications: Oversee the development and execution of internal communication strategies that drive employee engagement, foster a positive culture, and ensure employees are informed about company goals, priorities, and performance.
  • Executive Communications: Provide strategic counsel and support to senior executives, including the development of talking points, speeches, presentations, and other communications materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Crisis and Issues Management: Lead the communications response to crises and sensitive issues, providing timely, accurate, and transparent information to all stakeholders to mitigate reputational risk.
  • Content Creation and Management: Oversee the creation of high-quality, compelling content for various channels, including press releases, bylined articles, social media, and internal announcements.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a team of communications professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Measurement and Analytics: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies and initiatives, using data and analytics to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 15+ years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or a related field. Significant experience in the financial services industry, particularly in institutional banks, is strongly preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • Leadership: Proven experience leading and managing a communications team in a fast-paced, complex corporate environment.
  • Media Savvy: Extensive experience in media relations with a strong network of contacts at top-tier financial and business news outlets.
  • Writing Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft clear and compelling messages for diverse audiences.
  • Strategic Thinker: Demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop creative, effective communication plans that drive business results.
  • Crisis Experience: Proven experience in successfully managing communications for high-stakes crises and complex issues.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to advise and influence senior executives and work collaboratively across functions and geographies.
