Job Overview
Citi continues to strengthen its business control and credit governance framework through Institutional Credit Management (ICM), a first line of defense organization responsible for the consistent management of credit risk for Institutional clients globally. ICM delivers integrated, end‑to‑end credit underwriting, approval, and monitoring across Citi’s Corporate Banking, Markets, and Services businesses.
Within ICM, the Credit Underwriting (UW) function plays a critical role in assessing credit risk, supporting transaction approvals, and monitoring institutional portfolios. This position offers hands‑on credit exposure, close partnership with Banking and Risk teams, and a strong development platform for professionals looking to grow their careers within a global financial institution.
Role Overview
The Credit Risk Officer (AVP) is responsible for the credit underwriting and ongoing monitoring of an assigned portfolio of institutional clients in Mexico. The role supports periodic credit reviews, new transactions, and portfolio analysis, working closely with Banking, Independent Risk, and regional stakeholders.
This position reports into the ICM Underwriting team in Mexico and is well suited for credit professionals with a solid analytical foundation seeking to deepen institutional credit expertise and gain regional/global exposure.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Underwriting & Analysis
- Execute end‑to‑end credit underwriting processes, from initial deal discussions through credit approval
- Prepare and manage Credit Approval Memoranda (CAMs), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and policy compliance
- Perform financial analysis, cash flow projections, stress testing, risk ratings, and industry assessments
- Produce and maintain annual and quarterly credit reviews for assigned portfolio
Portfolio & Transaction Support
- Support ad‑hoc transactions, amendments, renewals, and special credit requests
- Participate in portfolio reviews, industry analyses, and stress‑testing exercises
Risk Governance & Stakeholder Interaction
- Partner with Banking, Independent Risk, Compliance, and Internal Audit teams as required
- Apply global credit risk standards while incorporating local regulatory and market considerations
Team & Strategic Contribution
- Support ICM Underwriting initiatives, process improvements, and best practice adoption
- Contribute to a strong risk culture through disciplined analysis and sound credit judgment
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 5–8 years of relevant experience in credit underwriting, credit risk, corporate banking, or related roles
- Advanced English proficiency (written and verbal), given interaction with regional and global teams
- Strong foundation in financial analysis and credit assessment methodologies
- Ability to evaluate financial statements, industries, and transaction structures
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
