Job Overview

Overview:

The Global Lending Operations (“GLO”) Balance Sheet Controls Group Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and enhancing processes and controls which ensure accuracy and completeness of data and balances that feed Citi’s Financial Statements. This role requires an analytical and strategic thinker with deep knowledge of commercial lending products, systems, and processes combined with an extensive understanding of key accounting principles, reporting disclosures, financial reporting risk, and related policy requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight and manage a team responsible for core accounting and balance sheet processes, controls, and metrics
  • Ensure completeness and ongoing balance sheet controls related to the end-to-end commercial loan lifecycle
  • Lead processes related to reconciliation, substantiation, and remediation activities to ensure compliance with policies related to Balance Sheet Reconciliation and Substantiation processes at Citi
  • Lead in the development of new concepts and approaches to solve challenges in GLO financial and accounting processes, procedures, data, and systems
  • Lead processes and partner with relevant stakeholders for the assessment, validation, and recording of period-end adjustments impacting financial reporting
  • Develop and enhance the key balance sheet control processes in partnership with GLO, Finance, and relevant risk and control groups
  • On behalf of GLO, partner with and influence senior stakeholders in Finance, including Controllers and Balance Sheet Governance, to ensure rationalization of related processes, controls, data, and metrics
  • Partner with relevant teams to produce critical financial reporting and risk metrics
  • Present and lead discussions with internal and external auditors and related risk and control groups related to balance sheet processes and controls
  • Partner on technology enhancements to automate controls, reduce risk, and enhance data flows from GLO product processors to the ledger
  • Provide guidance and knowledge of best practices to GLO staff related to balance sheet control principles and Citi policy requirements
  • Ability to analyze and assess changing policy requirements and translate those changes to process impacts, staff communication, and training
  • Ability to build strong relationships and interact at all levels in the organization
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience within accounting or financial services industry, including managing teams
  • English proficiency (spoken and written) required
  • Extensive knowledge of loan operations, commercial lending products, transactions, processes, product processors, and their impact to the general ledger
  • Experience with general ledger and subledger systems (eRecon, FullSuite preferred) 
  • Knowledge and experience with subledger and general ledger reconciliations
  • Experience with commercial lending technology and related reconciliation and accounting flows (Loan IQ, Flexcube, Transaction Lifecycle Management preferred)  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly and collaborate with cross-functional teams 
  • Strong knowledge of Citi’s financial and accounting policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience in leading lending and accounting related processes and controls
  • Understanding of financial reporting requirements and disclosures for commercial lending products
  • Understanding of SOX requirements and related controls
  • Extensive analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Strong leadership and organizational management skills
  • Ability to lead, assign, and manage priorities amongst team
  • Extensive experience utilizing Microsoft Office applications (MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word) is required 
  • Assumes informal/formal leadership role within the team, is involved in the coaching, training, and providing guidance and support to the team
  • Ability to present new concepts, results, and escalations to senior management and leadership
  • Deliver results, process improvements, and able to meet tight deadlines

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Finance or Accounting degree preferred, or similar discipline
  • Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred
