Job Overview

The Lead Manager, within the Regulation Risk Team, is responsible for leading and overseeing in-depth thematic risk assessments across various regulatory domains, specifically emphasizing issues, complaints, industry risks, and emerging risks. This role provides strategic direction and ensures adherence to key regulatory frameworks such as RAP and CCAR, and other high-risk regulatory obligations. The Lead Manager will direct and coordinate comprehensive issue assessments on regulatory-tagged issues, identify and interpret common horizontal issue trends, and ensure insightful reporting to Executive Steering Forums (ESFs) and Quarterly Regulation Ownership and Accountability Framework (ROAFs). This role involves mentoring junior analysts and fostering a high-performance environment within the Team.

Key Responsibilities:

Thematic Risk Assessments:

  • Lead and oversee comprehensive thematic analyses of regulatory risks and issues across different business lines and regulatory requirements, with a particular focus on proactively identifying and assessing issues, complaints, industry-related risks, and emerging risks.
  • Strategically identify emerging risk themes, root causes, and potential systemic vulnerabilities impacting regulatory compliance.
  • Drive the development and continuous refinement of methodologies for thematic risk assessments, ensuring consistency and effectiveness across the team.

Coordinated Issue Assessments:

  • Direct and manage coordinated issue assessments for issues specifically tagged as regulatory by various internal stakeholders or external bodies.
  • Oversee and guide discussions with issue owners, control owners, and relevant subject matter experts to understand issue scope, impact, and remediation plans.
  • Ensure robust consistency in issue documentation, classification, and severity ratings across all regulatory-tagged issues.

Horizontal Issue Trending and Reporting:

  • Establish and continuously enhance robust processes for identifying common horizontal issue trends across the enterprise, including those derived from issues, complaints, industry-related risks, and emerging risks; reviewing insightful reports and presentations on these trends, highlighting potential systemic control weaknesses or policy gaps.
  • Present key findings and recommendations to Executive Steering Forums (ESFs) and Quarterly ROAF sessions to facilitate strategic decision-making and remediation prioritization.

Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement Support:

  • Serve as a senior liaison between the Regulation Risk Team and various Centers of Excellence (COEs), business units, and other stakeholders to gather necessary data and insights for reporting.
  • Champion effective communication and information flow related to regulatory governance matters across the organization.
  • Lead the coordination of regulatory inquiries and ensure timely and accurate responses.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Risk Management, Economics, Law, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant professional certifications is highly preferred.
  • 13+ years of progressive experience in risk management, regulatory compliance, internal audit, or a related analytical leadership role within the financial services industry.
  • Proven experience leading teams and conducting thematic analyses, root cause analysis, and complex risk assessments,from structured and unstructured data.
  • Deep familiarity with regulatory frameworks and high-risk regulatory reporting, with experience in their practical application and oversight.
  • Expert proficiency in data analysis tools and data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Qlikview, ), capable of guiding complex data interpretations.
  • Advanced ability to extract, manipulate, and analyze large datasets to identify complex trends and patterns, and mentor others in these skills.
  • Superior analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills, with an exceptional eye for detail and the ability to connect disparate pieces of information to form a holistic view.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating complex thematic findings and recommendations clearly, persuasively, and concisely to senior leadership.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate across multiple teams, influence outcomes without direct authority, and manage stakeholder relationships at senior levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and process improvement initiatives within a regulatory risk context.
