Job Overview
The Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst is an intermediate level position responsible for participation in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to applications systems analysis and programming activities.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct tasks related to feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, risk technology, applications development, model development, and establish and implement new or revised applications systems and programs to meet specific business needs or user areas
- Monitor and control all phases of development process and analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation as well as provide user and operational support on applications to business users
- Utilize in-depth specialty knowledge of applications development to analyze complex problems/issues, provide evaluation of business process, system process, and industry standards, and make evaluative judgement
- Recommend and develop security measures in post implementation analysis of business usage to ensure successful system design and functionality
- Consult with users/clients and other technology groups on issues, recommend advanced programming solutions, and install and assist customer exposure systems
- Ensure essential procedures are followed and help define operating standards and processes
- Serve as advisor or coach to new or lower level analysts
- Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
- Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
- Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Technical Skills
1. Core Java Expertise
- Advanced Java Concepts:In-depth understanding of Java SE features, including multi-threading, concurrency, garbage collection, JVM internals, and new features from recent Java versions.
- Object-Oriented Design (OOD) & Design Patterns:Strong grasp of OOD principles (SOLID, DRY, YAGNI) and practical application of various design patterns (e.g., Factory, Singleton, Observer, Strategy) to build scalable and maintainable applications.
- Data Structures & Algorithms:Solid foundation in common data structures and algorithms, with the ability to apply them to solve complex problems efficiently.
2. Back-end Development
- Frameworks:Extensive experience with leading Java frameworks like Spring (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security) for building robust and scalable microservices and monolithic applications.
- RESTful APIs:Proven ability to design, develop, and consume RESTful web services. Understanding of API design principles (e.g., HATEOAS, versioning, idempotency), OpenAPI/Swagger for documentation, and various authentication/authorization mechanisms (OAuth2, JWT).
- Database Technologies:Proficiency in working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) including advanced SQL, ORM frameworks (Hibernate, JPA), schema design, and performance tuning. Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis) is often a plus.
- Messaging Systems:Experience with asynchronous messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ) for building event-driven architectures.
- Caching Mechanisms:Knowledge of distributed caching solutions (e.g., Redis, Memcached) to improve application performance.
3. Front-end Development
- Modern JavaScript Frameworks:Strong proficiency in at least one modern JavaScript framework/library, such as Angular, React, or Vue.js. This includes component-based architecture, state management, routing, and ecosystem tools.
- HTML5, CSS3, & Responsive Design:Expert-level knowledge of web markup, styling (e.g., Sass, Less), and building responsive and accessible user interfaces.
- Build Tools & Package Managers:Familiarity with front-end build tools (e.g., Webpack, Babel, Vite) and package managers (npm, Yarn).
4. DevOps & Cloud
- Containerization:Experience with Docker for containerizing applications.
- Orchestration:Familiarity with container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
- CI/CD:Understanding of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
- Cloud Platforms:Experience with major cloud providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their relevant services for deploying, monitoring, and scaling Java applications.
- Monitoring & Logging:Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) and logging frameworks (e.g., ELK stack, Splunk) for application health and performance.
5. Testing & Quality Assurance
- Unit & Integration Testing:Strong experience with testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Mockito, PowerMock for Java; Jest, React Testing Library for front-end).
- End-to-End Testing:Familiarity with E2E testing frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright).
- Code Quality:Adherence to coding standards, code reviews, and static code analysis tools (e.g., SonarQube).

- Architectural Guidance:Ability to contribute to and drive architectural decisions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability of solutions.

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
