Job Overview

Lead Financial Controller for Hungary

In this role, you will be a core member of the Hungary Country Finance team, with end-to-end responsibility for local finance matters relating to CEP Hungary and the Citi Solutions Center (CSC). You will promote strong financial stewardship, provide high-quality insights to senior stakeholders, and ensure the effective execution of regulatory, governance, and control requirements within a dynamic banking environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of CEP Hungary’s local finance matters and assume financial controllership responsibility for the CSC entity. Serve as the primary point of contact for all CSC-related finance and controlling matters, including the regular monitoring of its APS process, expense recoveries, and EBIT position.
  • Support the regional CFO by delivering financial and management reporting, local financial planning and analysis (FP&A), finance analytics, and related strategic initiatives for CEP Hungary.
  • Lead Legal Entity Management activities in Hungary and ensure consistent adherence to Citi’s risk and control requirements.
  • Provide high-quality business intelligence, decision support, and finance partnership to key stakeholders across local businesses. Serve as a trusted advisor to the Hungary CFO and the Central Europe Subcluster.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop colleagues within the local Finance team, fostering collaboration, engagement, and team cohesion in line with Citi’s corporate culture.
  • Identify, assess, and resolve emerging issues by applying subject-matter expertise in finance and taxation. Escalate risks and concerns appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Drive the continuous digital improvement of the team’s process inventory. Support the implementation of new workflows, standardization measures, and process re-engineering initiatives.
  • Demonstrate a strong risk and control mindset in all business decisions. Safeguard the firm’s reputation and assets by ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, and by escalating, managing, and reporting control issues in a timely and transparent manner.

Ideal background:

  • Ideally, at least 8 years of relevant professional experience in finance, with significant exposure to financial controlling and accounting.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets and banking products, together with solid knowledge of core finance concepts, financial reporting, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP).
  • Strong expertise in financial accounting and accounting policy.
  • Experience in taxation and/or audit is an advantage.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including hands-on experience working with complex spreadsheets. Experience with analytical and data-visualization tools, such as KNIME, Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent platforms, is an advantage.
  • Experience with financial reporting, regulatory reporting, and FP&A processes is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to explain complex topics clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset, supported by strong ownership, resilience, sound judgment, and collaboration skills.

We are a development-focused organization. The qualifications above represent strong assets for success in this role, but we do not pursue perfectionism. We seek capable colleagues with strong potential—and we support their growth toward excellence through meaningful responsibilities, exposure, and continuous development.
