Within the Strategic Controls team, you will have genuine influence over how controls are designed and embedded across a high-impact payments environment, with clear visibility into governance decisions at a senior level. You will play a key role in strengthening the governance and risk control framework underpinning the firm's payment operations. Sitting within the Asset Safekeeping & Processing Risk Assurance organization — part of Corporate Shared Services — this role bridges payment controls strategy and day-to-day operational execution, working closely with business lines, control partners, and technology teams to ensure controls are effectively embedded and continuously improved. Your work will directly inform the reliability of risk reporting and the quality of governance across one of Citi's most operationally critical functions.

What you’ll do:

  • Execute key governance activities for strategic controls embedded in the firm's payment operations, ensuring processes are operating as intended and accountability is maintained
  • Liaise with business lines, control partners, and technology teams to understand the behaviors and root causes behind control issues and initiatives, translating findings into actionable insights
  • Develop and maintain standardized risk and controls reporting that delivers consistent, reliable information to senior management and regulators, enabling sound decision-making
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design corrective action plans that address identified control failures and prevent recurrence
  • Interpret business procedures and translate them into clear internal processes and governance documentation aligned to the team's control responsibilities
  • Support the operations of governance committees by coordinating meetings, managing agendas, and tracking follow-up on outstanding action items

What we’ll need from you:

  • Relevant experience in operational risk management, compliance, audit, or a related controls function within financial services
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and manage key risks and controls across complex business processes
  • Experience designing and executing control frameworks, with a track record of implementing sustainable process improvements
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements, compliance obligations, and financial services risk management standards
  • Strong analytical capability to evaluate multi-layered risk and control environments and translate findings into clear recommendations
  • Clear and effective communicator, with the ability to present complex risk topics to senior stakeholders in written and verbal formats
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, for reporting, analysis, and governance documentation

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with payment infrastructure, systems, and end-to-end payment processes within a global financial institution
  • Practical experience with data extraction, business intelligence tools, or visual analytics platforms used in a risk or controls context
  • Technical background in payments or data management and visualization, supporting enhanced controls reporting and analysis
  • Bachelor's degree required; a Master's degree in a relevant field is an advantage
