Job Overview

Team/Role Overview

This is a senior, high-impact position within Independent Risk Management, established to advance the organization's climate risk analytics and stress testing capabilities. The role sits at the intersection of physical risk analytics and stress testing with a mandate to drive the integration of these capabilities into business-as-usual (BAU) risk management frameworks across the bank’s core portfolios and own operations. Working in close partnership with stakeholders across the risk organization, business lines and other functions, the successful candidate will be responsible for central coordination of physical risk analytics & stress testing activities, with focus on natural disasters risk assessment and insurability impact analysis.

Climate risk has become a key focus area for the banking sector. A team has been established within Independent Risk Management charged with building out second line Climate Risk management capabilities, including risk identification, measurement and integrating these into governance and existing risk processes.

This role is critical to ensuring the institution has a forward-looking, integrated view of these risks — enabling informed decision-making, regulatory compliance, and resilient portfolio management.

This role will support ongoing enhancements to existing risk management capabilities in line with industry leading practices and standards and emerging regulatory expectations.

What you'll do

Primary point of contact for key stakeholders integrating climate physical risk analytics in their risk processes, including oversight of physical risk components of Climate Risk Stress Testing exercises

Stress Testing Oversight & Capability Enhancement:

  • Lead the oversight and continued development of physical climate risk stress testing frameworks and methodologies.

  • Evaluate and enhance risk analytics that quantify the potential financial impact of physical climate risks across a defined range of scenarios.

  • Ensure stress testing outputs are robust, repeatable, and aligned with regulatory and internal standards.

Natural Disaster Risk Assessment:

  • Oversee the assessment of natural disaster exposures (e.g., floods, wildfires, hurricanes) across the bank's loan portfolios and own operational infrastructure.

  • Guide the development of scenario libraries that reflect a spectrum of acute and chronic physical risk events.

  • Translate geospatial and climate science data into actionable financial risk metrics.

Insurability Impact Analysis:

  • Integrate insurance considerations into physical risk assessments, evaluating the extent to which insurance coverage mitigates or transfers financial exposure.

  • Assess insurability risk — including coverage gaps, premium escalation, and market withdrawal — as a key driver of credit and operational risk.

  • Collaborate with relevant business lines to incorporate insurance-adjusted loss estimates into stress testing outputs and portfolio-level risk views.

  • Oversee the development of impactful and action-driven climate physical risk reporting to better engage with key stakeholders and senior management in the various stages of the stress testing process, from the scenario design and selection, through the review and challenge process and end-to-end governance.

  • Ensure climate analytics and scenario analysis activities incorporate internal and regulatory requirements across use cases with the objective to integrate them into the bank's overall risk management practices.

  • Coordinate across key stakeholder groups across business lines and risk, including Risk ID, modelling groups, reporting, and governance teams to develop and manage end to end stress testing processes.

  • Support the delivery of regulatory climate scenario analysis and stress testing exercises as they emerge (e.g. Europe / UK / Asia); contribute to related regulatory deliverables (e.g. regulatory enquiries, on-site exams) working with the broader Climate Risk team

  • Drive operational excellence and implementation of strong governance & controls to ensure repeatability of key processes and improve efficiency.

What we'll need from you

  • Good understanding of stress testing methodologies and ability to link economic risk factors and market data to the risk management framework.

  • Experience in designing and executing climate or macroeconomic stress testing frameworks for real estate portfolios, including end to end understanding of scenario, stress testing modeling and use of output

  • Experience in developing and/ or using climate physical risk / natural disasters analytics, including indirect impacts on insurance dynamics. Familiarity with catastrophe modeling, disaster scenario design and insurance markets and trends.

  • Good understanding of increasing regulatory expectations facing banks with respect to climate and environmental risk. Experience in dealing with and delivery of regulatory projects.

  • Proven ability to partner and collaborate across an organisation, excellent influencing, facilitation, and partnering skills, with the ability to build relationships, partner effectively and build a strong internal network across functions and throughout the global network at all levels of the organisation.

  • Strong quantitative and spreadsheet skills, with the ability to analyse, work with, interpret and present large amount of data in a readily digestible format using the latest charting/diagrammatic presentation techniques.

  • Strong PowerPoint and writing skills to manage and deliver strategic presentations.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively in a high-volume and complex environment with changing priorities with a practical solutions-driven approach.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills, with a commanding and convincing delivery and the ability to synthesize complex concepts, translate into ‘user friendly’ language and effectively present in long-form documents or slide format.

  • Strong tenacity and resilient under pressure and self-motivated in a fast paced and demanding environment. Highly engaged, strong attention to detail, and outcome oriented.

  • Academic degree in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Environmental Science or analytical field is preferred and 10 years relevant equivalent working experience in financial services industry.
