Job Overview

The Commercial Cards Portfolio Management team plays a pivotal role in optimizing the profitability and strategic growth of Citi’s Commercial Cards business. We achieve this by providing rigorous financial analysis, insightful market intelligence, and strategic guidance to Sales, Product, and Relationship Management teams globally. Our work directly impacts deal structuring, pricing decisions, and overall revenue generation for key corporate clients.

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytically driven Associate to join our Commercial Cards Portfolio Management team. This position is ideal for an individual with a strong foundation in financial analysis, statistical reasoning, and data interpretation, coupled with excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will be instrumental in evaluating the profitability of commercial card deals, ensuring model and pricing schedule accuracy, and advising stakeholders on deal structures that balance business acquisition with sustained profitability.

This role offers significant exposure to the core of Citi's Commercial Cards business, providing a unique opportunity to directly impact strategic decisions and revenue growth. The successful candidate will develop deep expertise in commercial card economics, advanced financial modeling, and client advisory skills, paving the way for future leadership roles within Revenue Management, Product, or Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deal Profitability Analysis:Conduct comprehensive financial analysis of prospective and existing commercial card deals, meticulously evaluating their P&L impact and overall profitability using established models and methodologies.

  • Model Validation & Data Integrity:Take primary responsibility for validating the accuracy of data inputs and population within financial models, ensuring the integrity and reliability of profitability assessments. This includes diligent review of model outputs to guarantee precision.

  • Critical Review & Challenge:Critically review proposed deal structures, pricing, and underlying assumptions, providing constructive challenge and identifying potential risks or opportunities to enhance profitability.

  • Strategic Advisory:Act as a trusted advisor to Sales and Client Executives, providing data-driven insights and strategic recommendations on how to structure deals effectively to win new business, expand existing relationships, and maintain a strong profitable position with clients.

  • Data Interpretation & Reporting:Translate complex financial and statistical data into clear, concise, and actionable insights for diverse audiences, including senior management and non-financial stakeholders.

  • Performance Monitoring:Support ongoing monitoring of portfolio performance, identifying trends, anomalies, and areas for revenue optimization.

  • Collaboration:Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Product, Risk, and Technology, to ensure alignment on deal strategies and financial objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field or equivalent experience.

  • Experience: 3-6 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, revenue management, or a highly analytical role, preferably within the financial services industry (banking, payments, or commercial cards experience is a significant plus).

  • Financial Acumen:Strong understanding of P&L statements, financial modeling, and key drivers of profitability in a transactional business.

  • Analytical & Statistical Skills:Proven ability to perform complex quantitative analysis, interpret statistical data, and identify meaningful patterns and trends.

  • Data Analysis Proficiency:Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis tools, including advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, VBA a plus). Experience with SQL for data extraction and manipulation is highly desirable. Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., R, Python) or visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a strong advantage.

  • Attention to Detail:Exceptional attention to detail and a meticulous approach to data validation, model integrity, and report accuracy.

  • Critical Thinking:Demonstrated ability to think critically, challenge assumptions, and propose innovative solutions based on rigorous analysis.

  • Communication Skills:Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts and analytical findings clearly and persuasively to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to effectively present and defend conclusions.

Good to Have:

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative field or MBA.

  • Experience specifically within the Commercial Cards or Payments industry.

  • Familiarity with large enterprise data environments and financial reporting systems.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CFA, CPA, advanced data analytics certifications).
