Job Overview

We are seeking a highly seasoned and exceptionally skilled Application Lead Developer with 15+ years of experience, specializing in Data. This role requires a proven track record of technical leadership, deep expertise in PL/SQL, ETL processes, IBM DataStage, and extensive experience with Enterprise Application Integration (EAP) patterns and technologies. The successful candidate will be instrumental in leading the design, development, and implementation of complex, scalable, and high-performance data solutions. This position will combine hands-on development with significant leadership responsibilities, including technical oversight, mentorship, and driving best practices within the data development team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership & Oversight: Lead a team of data developers, providing technical direction, guidance, and mentorship. Oversee the development lifecycle from requirements analysis to deployment and post-production support, ensuring adherence to architectural standards, coding best practices, and quality gates.
  • Solution Architecture & Design: Drive the architectural design and technical specification for complex data solutions, including data warehousing initiatives, intricate ETL pipelines, and enterprise-wide data integration projects. Ensure designs are robust, scalable, secure, and maintainable.
  • Advanced PL/SQL Development: Serve as the subject matter expert and hands-on developer for highly complex PL/SQL components, optimizing performance and ensuring efficient data manipulation and business logic execution within large-scale Oracle environments.
  • ETL Strategy & DataStage Expertise: Lead the design, development, and optimization of critical ETL processes using IBM DataStage. This includes architecting DataStage jobs for high volume and performance, managing shared containers, custom routines, and integrating with diverse data sources (relational, flat files, XML, etc.).
  • Enterprise Application Integration (EAP) Leadership: Guide the implementation of sophisticated integration solutions leveraging EAP patterns (e.g., publish/subscribe, request/reply, event-driven architectures) and technologies (e.g., message queues like MQ Series, Kafka, APIs, web services). Ensure seamless, reliable, and secure data flow between enterprise systems.
  • Performance Engineering: Champion performance engineering efforts across the data platform. Conduct deep-dive performance analysis, identify bottlenecks, and implement advanced optimization techniques for SQL, PL/SQL, DataStage jobs, and underlying database configurations.
  • Data Modeling & Governance: Collaborate closely with Data Architects on logical and physical data model designs. Ensure data solutions align with organizational data governance policies, data quality standards, and master data management principles.
  • Code Review & Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce rigorous code review processes. Conduct regular code reviews to ensure code quality, consistency, maintainability, and adherence to established standards and patterns.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution: Act as the escalation point for complex technical issues, leading root cause analysis and implementing strategic solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Stakeholder Management: Interface with business stakeholders, product owners, architects, and project managers to understand requirements, define scope, provide technical estimates, and communicate progress and challenges effectively.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements within the development lifecycle, championing the adoption of new tools, methodologies (e.g., DevOps, Agile), and automation where appropriate.
  • Innovation & Strategic Input: Keep abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in data engineering, integration, and application development. Provide strategic input on technology adoption and future roadmap.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in application development with a strong specialization in data, including at least 5 years in a Lead Developer or similar technical leadership role.
  • PL/SQL Expertise: Exceptional mastery (10+ years) in designing, developing, and optimizing highly complex PL/SQL solutions for critical enterprise applications within Oracle environments.
  • ETL & DataStage Mastery: Proven expert-level proficiency (8+ years) with IBM DataStage, including extensive experience with parallel jobs, enterprise-level design patterns, performance tuning, and administration aspects.
  • Data Warehousing & Modeling: Deep expertise in data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, slowly changing dimensions, and implementing robust ETL strategies for data marts and data warehouses.
  • Enterprise Application Integration (EAP): Extensive experience (7+ years) designing and implementing sophisticated EAP solutions using various integration patterns and technologies (e.g., MQ Series, Kafka, RESTful APIs, SOAP, event streaming platforms).
  • Database Expertise: Expert-level knowledge of Oracle Database (versions 11g, 12c, 19c or higher), including advanced SQL, database architecture, partitioning, indexing, and performance monitoring tools.
  • Performance Optimization: Demonstrated expertise in end-to-end performance analysis and optimization across the data stack (database, SQL, PL/SQL, ETL, integration layers).
  • System Design: Strong track record in designing, building, and deploying highly scalable, available, and fault-tolerant enterprise data solutions.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and inspire development teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Problem-Solving: Superior analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail and complex system interactions.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts, influence stakeholders, and present solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field.
  • Certifications in Oracle, IBM DataStage, or relevant integration technologies.
  • Experience with other major ETL tools (e.g., Informatica PowerCenter, Abinitio).
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms and services (e.g., AWS Redshift/Glue, Azure Data Factory/Synapse, Google BigQuery/Cloud Dataflow).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell scripting) for automation and utility development.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated testing for data solutions.
  • Experience in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
