Job Overview

Role Overview:

This role is part of the Markets Data Risk team within Markets COO and focuses on building and leading a data risk and control team in Pune. Key responsibilities include supporting data analytics, implementing target state controls, monitoring data quality metrics, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to resolve data quality issues. The role also involves leading engagements with Internal Audit and regulators, requiring a strong risk and control background, a practical approach to mitigating control exceptions, and team development skills.

The Markets Data Risk team works closely with Global Markets Trading Businesses, In-Business Risk (IBR), Global Market Risk (GMR), and Finance in setting standards and procedures, building 1st Line of Defense (1LOD) data controls, assessing and managing data risk, and leading data quality issue management and governance across processes and activities within Markets, Standardized Approach for calculating Counterparty Credit Risk under Basel regulations (SA-CCR), Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) Standardized Approach (SA), and Credit Valuation Adjustment (CVA).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Execution: Support the Head of Markets Data Risk and other Data Leads to drive execution of strategic deliverables aligned to Markets Data Plan
  • Drive Target State Data Control Model: Collaborate with Citi leadership to define a target state data control operating model for Markets, aiming to enhance the effective management of controls
  • Team Recruitment & Development: Recruit and develop a data controls team equipped with specialist data analysis and/or risk and control skillsets to effectively operate controls.
  • Data Quality Resolution & Control Integration: Comprehensively understand data quality issues, including end-to-end data flows and controls, to ensure resolution in the defined target state solutions with robust controls
  • Control Assessment & Enhancement: Ability to assess the effectiveness of existing data quality controls and recommend improvements.
  • Data Quality Risk Management: Participate in risk assessments and contribute to the development of risk mitigation strategies specifically related to data quality
  • Data Quality Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor and report on key data quality metrics and indicators, including the prioritization of data quality issues.
  • Regulatory and Audit Engagement & Communication: Liaise effectively with Internal Audit and regulators to articulate control implementation, data quality metrics, and associated remedial actions, while supporting engagements, identifying corrective actions, facilitating remediation, and ensuring timely responses

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Markets Data Expertise: 15+ years in data analytics within Markets (1st or 2nd line), with a strong grasp of financial products, operational intricacies, and various Markets Asset Classes (Equities, Rates, FX, Markets Treasury, Spread Products, Commodities, etc.), including their data structures and valuation methodologies
  • Data Understanding: Comprehensive understanding of how data influences business decisions, including expertise in data modeling and manipulation patterns
  • Data Quality Themes: Knowledge of CDE and validation related data quality issues at process touchpoints in complex technology environments
  • Risk & Control: Extensive experience in designing and monitoring key controls in Manager's Control Assessment (MCA), particularly within trading environments. Possesses a strong controls mindset, adept at identifying, mitigating, communicating, and escalating risks effectively
  • Executive Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills, expertly crafting compelling narratives through data storytelling and monitoring controls, with the judgment and authority to deliver insightful commentary and recommendations to senior stakeholders
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau; use of Python, SQL, Digital tools would be a significant plus
  • Analytical Skills: Robust analytical problem-solving abilities and a high level of integrity to deal with highly confidential data
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to understand the bigger picture while focusing on critical details, including process purpose, products, data capture, and reports
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Skilled in interacting effectively at all organizational levels and developing strong partnerships across the organization
  • Regulatory & Control: Experience dealing with regulators, Audit, Compliance, and other risk and control functions
  • Influence & Project Management: Effective organizational influencing skills and strong project management capabilities to drive initiatives to completion
  • Proactiveness & Efficiency: Self-starting individual with strong multitasking and prioritization abilities.
  • Adaptability: Proficient in navigating complex, ambiguous, and rapidly changing, demanding work environments
  • Process Improvement: Proactively identifies and champions new ideas, streamlining workflows and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency for both individual and team performance.

Education:

Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience, potentially Master’s degree
