Operational Risk Sr Officer I-Hybrid
The Operational Risk Sr Officer I is a strategic professional who closely follows latest trends in operational risk and adapts them for application within own job and the US Personal Bank (USPB) business. Typically a small number of people within the business that provide the same level of expertise. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Accountable for significant direct business results or authoritative advice regarding the operational risk of the business. Necessitates a degree of responsibility over technical strategy. Primarily affects a sub-function. Responsible for handling staff management issues, including resource management and allocation of work within the team/project.
The position is part of the US Personal Banking (USPB) Operational Risk Identification, Risk Appetite, and Risk Metrics team, acting as the team lead.
The incumbent will play a critical role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational risks, specific to USPB. They will lead a team of operational risk peers in the development, maintenance, and execution of several components of USPB’s Operational Risk Framework, including USPB's quarterly Risk Identification/Material Risk Inventory (MRI) assessment, the annual Risk Appetite Statement (RAS) and establishment of the related RAS Metrics, and the quarterly Risk Appetite Assessment (RAA). The position will lead USPB's identification and assessment of Risk Metrics/Key Risk Indicators (KRI) for use in monitoring the operational risks identified and to ensure alignment with USPB's Operational Risk Appetite.
Further, the incumbent works with various subject matter experts within various USPB business departments and supporting functions to collaboratively identify emerging, new, and/or significantly changing risks, develop and document risk driver statements for each operational Material Risk Statement, and identify/develop KRIs against each risk driver to ensure appropriate coverage of each. In instances where a Risk Metric/KRI exceeds its Warning or Breach threshold, the incumbent works with their USPB business/function partners to assess the situation, identify the root cause, and develop/document the remediation plan to support the Risk Metric/KRI returning to within Risk Appetite/Green.
Last, this position ensures the team incorporates the above body of work into USPB's quarterly Operational Risk Identification/MRI assessment process, the quarterly USPB Operational RAA, as well as the monthly reporting of USPB's Operational Risk KRIs.
Responsibilities:
- Establishes and oversees the application of operational risk policies, technology and tools, and governance processes to create lasting solutions for minimizing operational losses from failed internal processes, inadequate controls, and emerging risks.
- Independently asses operational risks and drive actions to address the root causes that persistently lead to operational risk losses by challenging both historical and proposed practices.
- Governance and oversight of operational risks may include (not limited to) Business Disruption and Safety Risk, Cyber Risk, Data Risk, Fraud & Theft, Third Party Risk, and Technology Risk.
- Serves as a subject matter expert for all performance issues that surface related to USPB's operational risk.
- Issues Management (KPI/KRI/Corrective Action Plans), as applicable.
- Analyzes a multitude of scorecards/performance management tools in an attempt to identify operational risk trends and mitigate exposure (risk/financial/regulatory).
- Develops and maintains relationships across the business users and Lines of Defense to better understand and deliver customer requirements by responding to changes in the internal and external business environment.
- Appropriately assess operational risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years relevant experience
- Outstanding communication and influencing skills through all levels of the organization and with external partners and vendors. Exceptional relationship management skills; must be able to address and resolve conflict while maintaining relationships. In depth knowledge of Mortgage Servicing Operational processes and technology platforms supporting the Operations. Ability to effectively communicate complex topics to a broad audience.
- Detailed oriented with analytical skills, as the role requires a large amount of data manipulation and presentation. Expert in Microsoft Office Tools.
- Third Party Oversight/Vendor Oversight experience preferred

$134,960.00 - $202,440.00
