Job Overview
The Public Cloud Engineer is a strategic professional who closely follows latest trends in own field and adapts them for application within own job and the business. Typically a small number of people within the business that provide the same level of expertise. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Accountable for significant direct business results or authoritative advice regarding the operations of the business. Necessitates a degree of responsibility over technical strategy. Primarily affects a sub-function. Responsible for handling staff management issues, including resource management and allocation of work within the team/project.
Responsibilities:
- Leads the working backwards documents for a platform product release
- Uses or commissions research, studies and focus groups to identify best-of-breed benchmarks for solving business problems
- Identifies innovations and leads “test and learn” experiments to create platform products that increase customer value
- Defines and measures the KPIs for a platform product
- Is able to make trade-off decisions on multiple platform products in a portfolio
- Develops business and platform requirements for either one platform component of a large platform product or a narrow product
- Leverages tools such as Ignite for reusability of APIs and platform services
- Determines release goals for a narrow platform product or a component of a large product
- Identifies best practices for continuous product development improvement
- Defines and leads new product constructs (e.g. moonshots) by working across teams and products
- Understands company-wide assets and is able to align leadership of dependent teams on necessary structural and/or resource changes to deliver efficiencies
- Consult with C12 and C13 on design reviews, product requirements, and acceptance criteria
- Prioritizes and implements best practices for improved product development efficiency and quality
- Formalizes best practices into broader frameworks and evangelizes with other Citi teams
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of relevant experience in a product line management, e-commerce, and/or strategic planning role.
- Significant experience building complex business and/or transactional models.
- Has thrived and succeeded in delivering high quality technology products / services in a high growth environment where priorities shift rapidly.
- Ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and develop business cases.
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
Public Cloud Engineer – Job Description
Citi’s Operations & Technology organization (O&T) is driving an innovative Cloud First strategy that works to optimize the IT environment, reduce complexity, and implement high degrees of automation to enable more agile application delivery. We aim to give Citi businesses a competitive edge by leveraging cloud scale architectures and enabling new infrastructure economics. O&T operates as a technology company focused on implementing scalable and innovative next gen technology solutions that will shape the future of global banking.
The Public Cloud Engineer will implement cloud architecture (on AWS, GCP and Azure) that enables the infrastructure (compute, database network, storage, observability) required for application hosting in public cloud using Citi’s engineering processes and best practices, with particular emphasis on automation and security by design.
The ideal candidate also has experience in software development, designing and building highly available and secure solutions on cloud. The role requires a talented technologist with experience engaging with application developers throughout the full development life-cycle – from inception and design to deployment, operation, and iterative development. An appreciation of the rigor and quality levels required in a global, regulated environment is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Create foundational infrastructure for public cloud (compute, storage, streaming, network) using automation tools on AWS, GCP, principally Terraform and associated HashiCorp tools
- Design and create tests for infrastructure deployment using Terratest and other tools
- Work with the pipeline team to ensure end to end automation of deployment
- Ensure compliance with regulations and policy by implementing accurate requirements traceability and verifiable security controls
- Implement cloud network services to enable a fast, resilient and secure hybrid cloud
- Develop, share and enforce engineering best practices using a modern SDLC approach that enables CI/CD and emphasizes automation, auditability, automated testing and infrastructure/policy as code
- Provide technical leadership in the design of complex cloud systems
- Develop and advocate for cloud native
- Drive client satisfaction by identifying and developing product and process improvement and automation initiatives while ensuring compliance of solutions
Basic Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in related field or equivalent experience
- Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure as code tools
- Hands-on experience developing software using languages such as Golang, Java, Kotlin, Python, C++ or Ruby
- Familiarity with Domain Driven Design and Event Driven Architecture
- Experience working in a distributed, containerized cloud-based environment using Azure/AWS/GCP
- Experience with Service Oriented Architecture applications and cloud-based services
- Experience with modern SDLC tools, branching strategies, and ability to develop and enforce CI/CD practices
- Experience working with Linux/UNIX and Docker
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as an AWS, GCP or Azure Solutions Architect. Other cloud-related certifications would also be beneficial, particularly cloud security certification
- Experience with Kubernetes
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Harness or Jenkins
- Experience with TDD and automated testing frameworks
- Experience working with any design frameworks
- Developer level operations proficiency, particularly cloud networking
