Job Overview

Head of AI for US Personal Banking (USPB) will serve as the senior AI leader responsible for setting and executing the strategic vision for AI innovation and transformation. This leader will unlock material value across efficiency, client experience, revenue growth, risk mitigation, and talent development through scalable, responsible AI implementation.

Reporting to the USPB COO and working in close partnership with USPB Leadership and key Technology leaders, the Head of AI will operate as a general manager—owning the strategic roadmap, talent leadership, value realization, and governance necessary to embed AI across USPB at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and lead the USPB AI vision, roadmap, and operating model, aligned to firmwide business objectives and technology strategy.
  • Partner with Technology on the development of technical capabilities, architecture, and tools that support scalable AI deployment.
  • Serve as a key voice in USPB’s executive leadership team, representing the AI agenda at the most senior levels.
  • Partner with the business and functional teams to build, prioritize and manage the end-to-end execution of AI used cases across USPB, including both horizontal opportunities (cross-franchise) and high-impact domain-specific initiatives.
  • Own a structured portfolio management process, including value case definition, path-to-production, and measurement of benefit realization.
  • Partner with existing process owners to reengineer legacy operating models using AI and automation to radically simplify and modernize how work gets done.
  • Lead and grow a lean but high-impact AI office, including centralized AI specialists and embedded AI “champions” and “accelerators” within each business.
  • Cultivate an AI-forward culture across all levels of USPB by driving ideation forums, feedback loops, and cross-functional engagement.
  • Partner with Citi’s Learning organization to develop and scale AI education and training programs, fostering AI fluency across business lines.
  • Design and lead USPB’s AI governance and oversight framework in partnership with Legal, Risk, Compliance (ICRM), Operational Risk Management (ORM), and other control functions.
  • Ensure ethical, explainable, and regulatory-compliant AI design and deployment across all business functions.
  • Create agile execution and approval processes to enable innovation while maintaining control integrity.
  • Build and manage an innovation ecosystem, including academic institutions, startups, think tanks, and vendor partners, to keep Citi on the leading edge of AI capabilities.
  • Augment USPB’s Pathfinder teams with AI specialists to showcase the art of the possible and guide business teams through AI adoption.
  • Share best practices across USPB and with enterprise partners to create structural AI capability uplift.
  • Define and implement monetization frameworks and value-tracking processes in close coordination with Finance and USPB leaders.
  • Co-own P&L outcomes for prioritized use cases alongside relevant USPB sponsors, with direct accountability for enabling execution and delivering measurable business impact.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience across AI, data science, digital transformation, or emerging technology, preferably within financial services or another regulated industry.
  • Proven track record as a general manager, transformation leader, or business executive with deep familiarity in deploying large scale efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to set vision, build high-performing teams, and influence across large, matrixed organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of modern AI/ML techniques, GenAI, automation, model risk management, and data governance.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and executive communication skills.
  • Passion for responsible AI, innovation, and creating value through technology.
