Job Overview

The Tax Sr. Analyst is a seasoned professional role. Applies in-depth disciplinary knowledge, contributing to the development of new techniques and the improvement of processes and work-flow for the area or function. Integrates subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area. Requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the function and overall business. Evaluates moderately complex and variable issues with substantial potential impact, where development of an approach/taking of an action involves weighing various alternatives and balancing potentially conflicting situations using multiple sources of information. Requires good analytical skills in order to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex and dynamic material from multiple sources. Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required. Regularly assumes informal/formal leadership role within teams. Involved in coaching and training of new recruits Significant impact in terms of project size, geography, etc. by influencing decisions through advice, counsel and/or facilitating services to others in area of specialization. Work and performance of all teams in the area are directly affected by the performance of the individual.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall management of the tax liabilities, of Citi, both directly and in connection with transactions with clients, including the related compliance, financial reporting, planning and controversy processes.
  • Contributes to the planning, accounting, filing and the reporting of tax liability of the company.
  • Assists in determining and compiling information required to satisfy income tax filing and related requirements at all levels of jurisdiction.
  • May participate in managing payments to tax authorities in compliance with specific tax regulations.
  • Resolves complex problems or transactions, where expertise is required to interpret policies, guidelines or processes.
  • Manages one or more processes, reports, procedures or products, and considered analytical or procedural "expert" representing a unit or team on cross-function process or project deliverables.
  • Directs day-to-day work of junior level employees.
  • Perform other duties and functions as assigned
  • Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
  • Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
  • Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

  • 5-8+ years of relevant experience

Business/ Department Objectives :

Responsible for in-scope processes related to multiple Citi lines of business within the centralized Tax Information Reporting function.  This position supports compliance with the regulatory risk through accurate and timely reporting and enhanced due diligence on customer accounts.  The incumbent is expected to migrate information reporting work from various sub-units within the Business Line into Tax Information Reporting; this process includes training and job shadowing, building documentation such as procedures and process flows, and identifies gaps in the process based on IRS regulations.  In addition, the incumbent will support a specific business vertical and is expected to provide tax technical guidance to the team and develop and enhance the teams product knowledge.

This is an Operations manager role within the tax information reporting and managing various processes covering IRS Reporting processes such as 1042, 1042s & 1099 and is expected to manage the Service delivery of the businesses.

Core Responsibilities:

  • IRS Reporting requirements
  • Review and coordinate queries received from IRS
  • Enhance Tax Information Reporting capabilities in Mumbai in partnership with the Custody business
  • Ensure strong controls are put in place from and Operations and Audit perspective, ensure satisfactory results for any process reviews done internally or by the Stakeholders. Self-identification of the risks (if any) and remedial and preventive plan.
  • Act as a tax / information reporting specialist to execute the IRS Reporting advisory/rollout, Systems conversions/rollouts.
  • Executes the tax information reporting processes to products issued by Citi’s business
  • Migration of work into our centralized hub
  • Develop "Go To" processes and implement appropriate procedures/ controls to Ensure consistent compliance with Information Reporting requirements
  • Ensure adherence to  KPI’s and KRI’s for the team
  • Support the process improvements / reengineering initiatives.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Act as a Tax information Reporting specialist managing IRS Reporting for LATAM Custody business
  • Ensure annual completion of the 1042-s & 1099 Regulatory Reporting, adhering to deadlines for Recipient and IRS filings.
  • Responsible for Income reconciliations across all Custody branches supported dealing with multiple agents, including reclassification process.
  • Point of contact for US IRS Reporting queries and escalating to senior management when required
  • Liaising with internal and external parties, including Clients and Client Executives to assist and resolve issues.
  • Provide support with IRS (KPMG) and Internal Audits (IA), including QI periodic reviews for the QI’s supported
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external parties, such as asset-servicing, local country management and agents.
  • Keep up to date with regulatory changes, updating and maintaining operational procedures relating to Tax Information reporting
  • Develop best practices and implement appropriate controls to ensure consistent compliance with Information Reporting requirements
  • Identify and participate in process re-engineering and re-design activities to achieve better controls, compliance, and efficiencies
  • Contribute towards departmental requirement to adhere to strict regulatory and compliance requirements per tax authority and Citi policy
  • Support Technology projects from a technical tax perspective
  • Perform reviews of written tax policy and procedures, research and respond to inquiries from operational areas
