Job Overview
This role is a Services (TTS & IIS) In-Business Risk Head for the Indian sub-continent countries within the Asia South cluster. The role reports into the Indian Sub-continent Services Head. The role has end to end responsibility and proactive risk management to support the TTS & IIS Indian sub-continent business and management. The role requires sound understanding of operational risks inherent in high-volume, global financial services, including payment processing, trade finance, custody, clearing, settlement, and treasury services. This includes a deep knowledge of front-to-back processes and their associated risks. The role also warrants strong awareness and understanding of technological risks, cyber security threats, data integrity, and resilience within digital service delivery channels and core processing systems. In addition, the candidate must have the ability to leverage large datasets for risk identification, trend analysis, and the development of actionable insights along with being skilled in preparing clear, concise, and impactful risk reports for senior management governance & reporting.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Business/ Department
Objectives:
- Strategic Risk Alignment: Ability to formulate and execute risk and control strategies that are fully integrated with the Citi Services business strategy, anticipating market, technological, and regulatory changes.
- Business Acumen: Deep understanding of the Citi Services business model, competitive landscape, client needs, and high risk flows to ensure risk management supports sustainable growth and innovation.
- Executive Leadership: Proven capability to lead, influence, and manage a large, diverse team of risk and control professionals, fostering a high-performance, ethical, and risk-aware culture.
- Governance & Oversight: Experience in establishing robust governance structures for risk and control, including committee participation, issue escalation processes, and policy development for the Services business.
- Change & Transformation Leadership: Skill in leading significant control environment enhancements, process re-engineering, and technology adoption initiatives in response to evolving risks and regulatory demands within a complex global services organization.
- Executive Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate highly complex risk and control issues, strategies, and solutions persuasively and clearly to the Head of Citi Services, other executive leaders, and global functional heads.
- Regulatory Engagement: Strong track record of building and maintaining credible relationships with global and local regulators, effectively articulating Citi's control framework and risk posture within the Services business.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to drive collaboration and achieve consensus across various business lines, operations, technology, and support functions within Citi Services, often in a matrix management structure.
- Negotiation & Influence: Adept at negotiating priorities and influencing decision-making related to risk appetite, control investments, and remediation efforts across the organization.
Core Responsibilities:
- Proactive engagement with country/product/cluster teams from ideation, product design and client implementation
- Create an inventory of country/product/cluster initiatives/pipeline
- Ensure engagement of country/product/cluster teams end to end
- Ensure risk and control strategies are embedded within these initiatives
- Deliver Consent Order and Transformation activities in alignment with global programs
- Employ quality assurance checks to ensure a consistent approach across country/product/cluster
- Achievement of all SLA’s
- Design and deliver proactive risk reporting with targeted key risk metrics
- Utilize global reporting hub to ensure consistency of metrics across country/product/cluster
- Continually enhance key risk metrics to ensure a proactive approach to risk identification
- Ensure collaboration across country/product/cluster when remediating issues or completing deep dives into risk events
- Continued focus on achieving regulatory compliance outcomes with minimal overdue regulatory change
- Implement MCA enhancements
- Deliver against uplift program in a timely manner
- Ensure all deliverables are completed to a high level of quality and employ quality assurance checks
- Implement standardized control reporting format
- Reduction in issues, ORE’s and near misses
- Active management of all risk events
- Demonstrate, through metrics, a reduction in risk at the country/product/cluster level
- Achieve SII’s of greater than 80% for the clusters
- Ensure high quality governance and reporting
- Maintain high standards of risk management forum governance and reporting practices
- Improve BRR format and streamline to create efficiencies
- Deliver on assigned initiatives to a high level of quality and within allocated timeframes
- Ensure all key metrics remain within risk appetite and executive scorecards
- Manage the levels of long-standing risk acceptances
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- This job needs the incumbent to possess specialized product knowledge around Services business and product offerings. The complexity of the job arises from -
Evolving and dynamic regulatory landscape Heightened regulatory data deliverables & onsite inspections and Emerging risk areas impacting the Services businesses
- Therefore, the incumbent has a demanding role to play in -
Developing relationships across all three lines of defense internally as well as regulatory authorities externally. As a result, become the first point of escalation on any issue. The incumbent will have supervisory responsibility and will be supported by a team of 2+ IBR senior resources SPOC for all regulatory projects including finalizing of budgets for regulatory automation and their execution/delivery in line with regulatory commitments Represent the Services business as lead and/or delegate for key country governance & reporting forums
Financial/ Budgetary:
Contribute to Services financial objectives through risk mitigation strategies and prudent expense management
- Completion of all LCS entries within SLA’s
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency
- Demonstrate compliance with OKR’s
- Continue weekly reviews of PLE’s/NM’s/ORE’s to ensure future potential losses are minimized
- Focus on effectiveness of fraud risk management activities across the clusters
- Deliver on controls automation and manual/bespoke initiatives
- Direct expenses within or lower than plan
Individual Contributor (IC)/Managerial
Manager
Major Challenges:
- Evolving regulatory landscape and heightened regulatory inspections with stringent timelines
- Developing relationships across all three lines of defense internally as well as regulatory authorities externally. As a result, become the first point of escalation on any issue. Become a thought leader and advisor
- Knowledge depth within the Services business and product organization, to be able to provide in-house credible challenge and proactive risk management solutions beyond one’s normal scope of activities on an ongoing basis.
- Promote team involvement in Process and Change Management within the myriad of existing regulatory constraints.
- Manage risk and compliance needs and requirements
- Manage governance expectation with the existing resource base.
QUALIFICATIONS
MBA / CA / Other relevant qualification
Experience:
Minimum 15 years relevant experience in the field of transaction banking or relationship management in cash and trade
Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of regulations, market practices and bank operations
- Strong understanding of key Citi policies with respect to Risk & Controls and escalation
- Sound ability to execute credible challenge, risk identification & assessment including data analysis and management reporting
- Interpersonal and Communication skills for effective and navigating difficult/conflicting conversations
- Commitment to the highest ethical standards and fostering a strong culture of integrity and transparency within the team and the broader organization.
- Proactive & forward-looking approach to identifying emerging risks, anticipating future regulatory requirements, and implementing preventative controls before issues materialize.
- Ability to maintain effectiveness and provide decisive leadership in high-pressure situations, navigating ambiguous information and rapidly changing business or regulatory environments.
- Experience in managing relationships with diverse stakeholders, including senior management, business leaders, internal audit, and external regulators.
- Excellent ability to articulate complex risk concepts and control issues clearly, concisely, and persuasively to both technical and non-technical audiences. This includes strong presentation skills.
- Strong ability to work effectively across various departments, regions, and functions within a matrix organization.
