Job Overview
Institutional Credit Management (ICM) is a key pillar of the Client Organization and stands as Citi's first line of defense in-business credit risk function, overseeing all wholesale credit risk activities for institutional clients by delivering integrated, end-to-end excellence in wholesale credit underwriting, identification, measurement, management, and monitoring across the enterprise.
The Global Credit Underwriting function (ICM UW) provides best-in-class credit analysis, underwriting, and approval, and ongoing credit monitoring for Banking, Services, and Markets Clients, thereby safeguarding Citi’s credit exposures while helping drive new business for the firm.
The Corporate Credit Underwriting Function Head will lead the Mumbai based Corporate Credit UW and Key Responsibilities: include but are not limited to the following:
Lead a large team of best-in-class credit subject matter experts who underwrite, provide credit approval/sanction, and execute ongoing monitoring of assigned portfolio of large corporate credits
Serve as ICM Legal Entity and Site Head for Citicorp Services India Private Limited (CSIPL) and as ICM’s liaison to the India Consolidated Service Centre (CSC) Leadership teams
Tireless focus on hiring, retaining, and developing a high-performance culture within the credit risk SME staff defined by unmatched productivity and deep credit acumen, positioning the Mumbai CSC as the firm's central ‘Call on Credit’ hub for underwriting expertise.
Embed a culture of operational excellence, characterized by strong quality controls and disciplined adherence to all underwriting processes to ensure consistent execution.
Aggressive adopter and promoter of leading practices in the use of Artificial Intelligence as a core component of driving safety, soundness, and efficiency of credit underwriting and monitoring as well as encouraging the team to provide constructive feedback to aid further refinement of tools
Provide thought leadership and process direction to front line Business Coverage, Capital Markets and Risk partners on an ad-hoc as needed basis
Provide ad-hoc updates to Risk and senior leadership as needed
Ensure proper management of team resources and serve as a key point of contact for the team for escalations / guidance as required
Review and approval of Credit Approval Memo (CAM) packages as senior Business Credit Approver
Facilitate relationships with key regulators, internal audit, and control functions
Support Senior Management on strategic initiatives / projects
Risk Management Experience:
Senior credit officer (SCO) authority covering large and complex relationships across investment and non-investment grade portfolios, capital commitments, derivatives with multi-industry experience
Demonstrated expertise in and exposure to global credit risk management standards
Ability to understand capital markets products, complex financing, complex cross-border exposures and product structures
Ability to provide strategic insights and strong sensitivity to macro and regulatory issues, and impact of such issues on the various Risk families, including operational and franchise risks
Able to discuss and address issues associated with the allocation of risk assets and risk capital in partnership with banking and product organizations
Client Relationships / Business Partnership:
Proven ability to understand nuances of local markets, local regulation, and the capabilities and practices of competitors
Navigates organizational complexity and breaks silos
Creates and sustains a network of strong partnerships with Citi’s Businesses and others critical stakeholders including Risk Management, Finance, Compliance, and Human Resources
Proven experience of managing large teams
Proven track record of partnering with global peers in leveraging and implementation of best practices
Proven ability to execute strategic projects and initiatives
Qualifications:
20+ years of experience, including 10+ years' managerial experience
Proven ability to effectively engage with regulators and internal control functions including Internal Audit and Fundamental Credit Risk as well as with external audit
Effective people leader with a demonstrated track record of developing, coaching, and retaining top talent to build high-performing teams.
Demonstrates strong ethics and integrity
Ability to see the ‘big picture’ in a complex environment
Can make decisions under pressure and short timeline
Excellent verbal & written communication skills. Active listening skills.
Excellent presentation skills – adept at presenting effectively to audiences of various sizes and various constituencies
Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
