Team/Role Overview
This role is part of a global team dedicated to establishing and maintaining a robust sanctions control environment and awareness across Citi Markets businesses. The team proactively manages sanctions risks, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, procedures, laws, and regulations, and adapting to a rapidly changing regulatory landscape. This role directly supports the sales and trading environment, enhancing sanctions risk management through process development, data analysis, and automation of solutions where possible. The successful candidate will collaborate with various stakeholders including Business Management, Sales, Accounts Control, KYC Support Unit, Operations, Technology, and Compliance to develop and support effective risk management processes.
What you'll do
- Manage and oversee global sanctions risk and controls as part of a First Line of Defense Risk Management team, supporting senior regional and global team members.
- Collaborate with various business units, operations, and technology to assess sanctions risks for clients and products, and evaluate controls, supporting the implementation of enhancements.
- Stay updated on new sanctions requirements and assess their impact on clients, products, and services.
- Conduct pre-transaction reviews for permissibility, including initial fact-finding, assessment, tracking, and reporting, escalating as necessary.
- Participate in the organization's response to new sanctions programs, including identifying impacts and contributing to control environment changes.
- Document processes, track actions, maintain oversight through metrics review, and prepare management presentations on sanctions developments and emerging risks.
What we'll need from you
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree, MBA, or JD a plus.
- Significant relevant experience in a financial institution, consulting firm, law firm, or regulatory body, with a compliance or legal background preferred.
- Strong knowledge of economic sanctions regulations (e.g., OFAC, EU, UK sanctions regimes) and securities products and services (including equities, bonds, derivatives, FX).
- Proven fact-finding and analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage and track multiple tasks to completion.
- Mandatory strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and work under pressure with minimal supervision.
