Overview of the Role
Reporting to the Head of US Personal Banking Technology for North America, the Head of USPB AI Engineering role presents a unique opportunity to accelerate Citi’s transformation within the U.S. Personal Banking Technology organization by embedding emerging technologies and artificial intelligence into core banking platforms and customer experiences. The role will be instrumental in expanding Citi’s AI strategy within US Personal Bank, driving responsible innovation, and delivering technology-enabled outcomes across consumer banking technology.
The job requires a broad and comprehensive understanding of the different systems, theories and practices relevant to a function as well as practical experience of multiple business cycles. In-depth knowledge of the industry, partner relationships and direct competitors' products/services is also necessary in order to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business. Requires thorough understanding of strategic direction of the function within the business, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and/ or area of expertise. This role requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of the technology landscape, a proven track record of successful innovation initiatives, and the ability to manage and inspire a team of talented engineers, researchers, and developers. Excellent communication skills required in order to influence a wide range of audiences. Full management responsibility of multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning. The role will be based in Irving.
Key Priorities
•Define and execute USPBT’s AI and Emerging Tech strategy in alignment with Citi’s Enterprise AI charter, risk and control standards, and regulatory expectations.
•Design and implement AI/ML solutions across engineering, core consumer banking and digital areas.
•Build a robust AI/GenAI execution platform to accelerate implementation of business use cases
•Partner with key stakeholders in Technology, Risk, Compliance, Information Security, and Legal to ensure scalable and responsible AI adoption, in accordance with Citi’s model risk and AI governance frameworks.
•Lead development and execution of AI-powered automation, advanced analytics, and predictive decisioning to improve speed, accuracy, and customer experience across digital banking journeys.
•Leverage AI capabilities embedded in existing vendor platforms and third-party fintech integrations to drive value without redundant investment.
•Establish a robust pipeline of proof-of-concepts and pilot use cases, driving ideation to industrialization through measurable impact tracking.
•Monitor advancements in generative AI, cloud-native architectures, and regulatory AI policy to proactively inform Citi’s strategy and risk posture.
•Forge partnerships with fintechs, hyperscalers, AI vendors, and academic institutions to accelerate Citi’s and USPBT’s AI maturity and innovation capacity.
•Influence and educate senior stakeholders, including CDAO, CIO, and business heads, on the art of the possible in emerging tech.
•Build, lead, and mentor a cross-functional team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and digital transformation leaders while fostering collaboration across broader USPBT and enterprise tech teams.
•Deliver executive-level updates and strategy recommendations to senior leadership, Boards, and transformation councils on emerging tech progress and risk mitigations.
Lead the discussions in contract negotiations, pricing strategies, partner integrations and contractual Service Level Agreements with the business sales teams
•Define and drive the talent strategy and manage internal talent pipeline while also building external networks to attract top-tier talent.
•Attract and develop talent to meet our client’s needs and ensure forward compatible success.
•This leader will have deep technical understanding of modern computing practices and architectures.
•Build a culture of ownership within the technical and design teams to closely review and own experiences and push the partners to adopt the forward looking designs
•Impacts the function by exercising control over sizable resources / budget, policy formulation and planning; has significant influence over future strategy.
•Influences and negotiates with senior leaders (across functions); communicates with external parties.
•Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards
•Incumbent will provide vision, leadership and direction for organizational effectiveness, global optimizations, and superior products / services within an environment of continuous learning & growth.
•Develop and implement best-in-class metrics monitoring and corrective actions to continually improve the digital customer engagement.
•Establish and build global relationships and partnerships across business, technology and operational lines.
•Provide leadership, development opportunities, performance management, development and succession-planning, staff communications, and positive interactive working environment to ensure the highest productivity and employee engagement.
