Job Overview
The Commodities NAM Origination Director is a strategic professional responsible for client engagement, credit structuring, and deal execution in coordination with the North American Power & Gas Sales and Trading teams. Excellent analytical and communication skills required in order to successfully interact with key internal and external stakeholders. Provides advanced judgment and conducts in-depth quantitative or qualitative analysis to solve problems and develop new, innovative solutions in support of the Citi NAM Power & Gas franchise. Required to think beyond existing solutions, assumptions or current knowledge of sophisticated areas.
Responsibilities:
- Refine and implement sales/marketing strategy to improve Citi's client footprint and maximize associated revenue while working with management/colleagues to establish a clear marketing plan with defined priorities, market penetration and revenue goals
- Leverage contact network to understand client needs, introduce the Citi offering, and convince clients to adopt it to increase client satisfaction/Citi revenue
- Advise team in strategic positioning and closing transactions with various internal stakeholders (structuring, trading, legal, credit and risk etc.)
- Forge a relationship with salespeople in order to leverage Citi's franchise and source relevant buying and selling opportunities for clients
- Leverage past banking or related experience to increase and improve deal flow and client engagement.
- Take a lead role in fostering an environment of collaboration through interfacing with appropriate internal and external partners to enhance share of mind with clients, increase dialogue and to deliver on expertise
- Understand and analyze clients’ businesses and exposures to provide best suited sales solutions in full coordination with all relevant business partners
- Collaborate with internal credit teams on credit reviews including assessment of portfolio risk, liquidity of client positions, credit limits and risk appetite ratios
- Work in close partnership with control functions such as Legal, Compliance, Market and Credit Risk, Audit, and Finance to ensure appropriate governance and control infrastructure. Build a culture of responsible finance, good governance, supervision, expense discipline, and ethics.
- Be familiar with and adhere to Citi's Code of Conduct and the Plan of Supervision for Global Markets and Securities Services; ensure all team members understand the need to do the same. Adhere to all policies and procedures as defined by the role, which will be communicated.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
- Keep abreast of marketplace dynamics, analyze power and gas market fundamentals and collaborate with professionals to prepare and present market commentary to corporate clients
- Cultivate existing client relationships and identify potential for new, untapped revenue opportunities within the North American client space, collaborating with partners on the banking and trading side to determine feasibility
Qualifications:
- 15+ years in US power sales, origination or structured products, including existing client relationships
- Strong understanding and expertise of physical power flows in the US
- Demonstrated problem solving and organizational skills
- Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with teams and track business development (collect research, analyze industry trends)
- Prior commodities experience at a bank or similar financially sponsored market participant preferred.
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
