Job Overview

An effective governance, supervision and control framework for Non-Financial Risk is critical to the continuing existence and success of the Global Equities business. This area has undergone a period of significant and rapid change in response to increased global regulatory scrutiny and expectations for Operational and Compliance Risks. To ensure a strong & consistent global control environment, Equities have an in-business Risk and Controls team who are responsible for developing and operating a fit for purpose Non-Financial Risk Framework.

Equities In-Business Risk and Controls team is primarily responsible for strengthening the governance, supervisory and control framework in the region.

This role requires extensive liaison with multiple functions within the business and support functions at all levels, including Markets Central Risk & Controls teams, Technology, Audit, Compliance, Risk, Finance, Operations, Middle Office as well as other Markets Businesses both in the region and globally. In addition, the role will work closely with the Equities Desks and cross-Markets Non- Financial Risk and Control teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Continually review and propose steps to strengthen the firm’s systems of control and governance for the adequate protection of the Equities Supervisors and Business governance.
  • Drive the control framework evolution, and devise and deliver solutions to sufficiently mitigate existing and new emerging risks.
  • Assist Equities to embed an effective governance structure for oversight of relevant business activities while maintaining documentation of Supervisory responsibilities.
  • Support APAC Risk and Control MI, Governance, reporting and escalations.
  • Work with the team in the monitoring of adherence to policy requirements and supervisory controls.
  • Ensure the identification of issue root cause, partnering with control and process owners to recommend holistic corrective actions and improvements, provide check and challenge to ensure appropriate escalation in according with Issue Management and Escalation Policies.
  • Maintain control documentation needed for the various internal, external and regulatory reviews.
  • Work with Business Execution teams to deliver new control initiatives.
  • Interact with the Markets Central Risk & Control teams (aka Risk Stripes), Compliance, Internal Audit and other control functions to drive forward control enhancement initiatives and investigate control failures.
  • Facilitate and as required participate in ad-hoc reviews and regulatory / supervisory examinations of the wider business.
  • Create strong partnership with functions including middle office, operations, product control and technology to provide end to end visibility of material risks.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in In-Business Risk and Control role or Regulatory Engagement, preferably within Equity or Global Market business. Relevant second and third line of defense experience also considered.
  • Front to back understanding of Equities trades and booking
  • Strong governance, control and process knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of end-to-end product flows or lifecycle events of Equities Business.
  • Risk and Control expertise within first line with strong focus on Risk Management and Supervisory Frameworks
  • Strong attention to detail, process oriented, data driven and well organized.
  • Candidates with experience in other asset classes and with an understanding of regulatory landscape in APAC or good Risk & Control background would also be considered
  • Preferred candidates would have experience within a markets business (Equities experience preferred) and have a deep understanding of the regulatory framework, key controls related issues and possible areas of ethical conflicts in order to effectively address them.  
  • Good academic background, educated to a degree level or sufficient industry experience preferred.
  • Purpose driven, highly motivated, collaborative, team player with strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to articulate problems simply and concisely.
  • Capability of prioritizing and multi-tasking in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Ability to proactively drive process improvements and identify re-engineering opportunities
  • Experience in delivering change-related projects
  • Ability to influence and shape risk and control agenda
