Discover your future at Citi

Working at Citi is far more than just a job. A career with us means joining a team of more than 230,000 dedicated people from around the globe. At Citi, you’ll have the opportunity to grow your career, give back to your community and make a real impact.

Job Overview

The Opportunity

This is a critical leadership role reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of MBS, Securitization, and Warehouse Lending Operations within Cash Securities. We are looking for an institutional builder who takes complete ownership, not just a manager. You will take on full responsibility for the MBS Allocations and MBS Settlements functions, two teams at the core of our operational delivery.

This isn't a role for a caretaker. We need a leader who can look at complex processes, simplify them, and bring a creative, pragmatic spin to how we operate. You are here to challenge the status quo, elevate capability, and make a measurable impact. Your primary mandate is to mature the culture, drive strategic improvements, and develop your AVPs into true leaders who, in turn, build their own teams. This role is about building a sustainable impact and a stronger, more resilient organization.

Core Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership:Directly manage and develop a team of AVPs and officers specializing in MBS Operations. Set clear performance standards and own the full talent lifecycle, including coaching and building a succession pipeline for this critical product area.
  • MBS Operational Execution:Oversee all daily MBS settlement and allocation cycles, ensuring timely and accurate execution of TBA pair-offs, pool allocations, and related wire activity. Proactively manage settlement fails and associated market risk.
  • Process Transformation:Drive process simplification and innovation specifically within the MBS lifecycle. Challenge existing workflows for TBA netting, pool processing, and reconciliations to implement a more resilient and efficient operating model.
  • Risk & Control Management:Own the risk and control environment for both MBS functions. Ensure robust controls are in place for managing settlement exposure, mitigating operational risks associated with TBA processing, and ensuring full audit readiness.
  • Stakeholder Partnership:Act as the primary leadership contact for the MBS trading desk, technology, compliance, and other internal partners. Build strong relationships to ensure alignment on resolving complex trade issues and driving a shared agenda.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

We are looking for a specific archetype that aligns with our leadership constitution.

  • An Institutional Builder with Deep Ownership:You are motivated to build a sustainable impact. You take full, unambiguous ownership of the teams, systems, and outcomes you lead, strengthening the machinery of the organization for the long term.
  • A Pragmatic Innovator:You don’t just manage processes; you improve them. You can distill complex issues into actionable plans and bring a creative but disciplined approach to solving problems. You are comfortable challenging legacy thinking to drive meaningful, sustainable improvement.
  • A Standard Setter:You lead with humanity and uphold standards without hesitation. You believe accountability is cultural, not situational, and you tolerate very little that weakens the teams you lead.
  • A Calm Authority:You bring clarity to complexity and stability to moments of pressure. Your leadership is quiet but never opaque. You are decisive without volatility and analytical without paralysis.
  • Focused on People:You are committed to growing your people, challenging them to expand their capacity while providing the support needed for them to rise. Your legacy will be the leaders you helped produce.
  • Experience & Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated, deep expertise in Financial Services Operations, with a strong focus on Fixed Income, Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS), or similarly complex settlement environments.
    • A proven track record of direct people management, with specific experience coaching AVPs or junior managers and developing a leadership pipeline.
    • Verifiable experience in leading process re-engineering, risk management, and control framework enhancements.
    • Strong ability to partner with and influence senior stakeholders across functions, including Technology, Risk, and the Front Office.
    • Familiarity with the potential of AI and automation tools to transform operations; demonstrated curiosity or experience in applying these technologies is highly valued.
    • FINRA Series 99 license, or the ability to obtain it within 120 days of hire, is required.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field.
