Discover your future at Citi
Working at Citi is far more than just a job. A career with us means joining a team of more than 230,000 dedicated people from around the globe. At Citi, you’ll have the opportunity to grow your career, give back to your community and make a real impact.
Job Overview
Who We're Looking For
We're building a team of sharp, disciplined operators who thrive in high-volume, high-stakes environments. This role is for someone early in their career who wants to learn fast, own meaningful work, and build expertise in securities settlement operations at scale.
You'll work directly on securities transaction processing and settlement—solving problems in real time, managing risk, and ensuring flawless execution across a complex product set. You'll be surrounded by experienced professionals who will challenge you, coach you, and expect you to grow quickly.
This isn't a back-office support role. It's operational infrastructure. The work you do protects the firm, enables the business, and builds the foundation for everything that happens upstream.
What You'll Do
Own end-to-end securities settlement processing
You'll execute trade settlement, clearance, and reconciliation across securities products. You'll become fluent in how securities trades move from execution to final settlement—and what breaks when they don't.
Manage breaks, fails, and exceptions with urgency
You'll monitor daily settlement activity, identify fails before they become problems, and work with counterparties, custodians, and internal teams to resolve issues same-day when possible. Settlement deadlines are non-negotiable.
Solve problems that matter
You'll investigate and resolve settlement discrepancies, payment issues, and operational exceptions. You'll learn to distinguish between noise and risk, and you'll escalate intelligently.
Strengthen controls and minimize risk
You'll monitor errors, support reconciliation processes, and ensure compliance with audit and regulatory requirements. You'll learn how operational discipline protects the firm's reputation and client assets.
Support the business and drive improvement
You'll provide reporting that informs decision-making, contribute to process enhancements and automation initiatives, and help identify what's broken so we can fix it.
Communicate with clarity and professionalism
You'll interact with traders, middle office, custodians, and external counterparties. You'll explain complex issues clearly, manage escalations effectively, and represent the team with credibility.
What You Bring
0–2 years of experience in settlement operations, middle office, treasury operations, or a related operational role
We're looking for someone who understands the basics and is ready to accelerate. If you've worked in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment—even outside finance—we want to hear from you.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
You catch what others miss. You think logically under pressure. You verify, you don't guess.
Comfort with complexity and volume
You can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment without losing composure or quality. You understand that settlement deadlines don't move.
Technical aptitude
Familiarity with securities products, settlement processes, and reconciliation is a plus. Experience with Excel (including macros) and internal banking systems is valued. If you're not technical yet, you need to be willing to learn quickly.
Ownership mentality
You take responsibility for outcomes. You escalate early, communicate clearly, and follow through. You understand that in settlement operations, your work directly impacts the firm's risk profile.
Resilience and sound judgment
Markets move. Systems fail. Counterparties miss deadlines. You stay calm, think clearly, and solve problems in real time while protecting the firm and our clients.
What You'll Gain
- Accelerated learning in securities settlement operations and the full trade lifecycle
- Exposure to trading desks, middle office, and cross-functional teams across the firm
- Mentorship from experienced operators who will teach you how settlement actually works
- Clear growth path into senior operational, analytical, or leadership roles
- Operational fluency that will serve you throughout your career—whether you stay in operations or move into trading, risk, or product roles
Our Expectations
We hold a high standard. We expect you to:
- Execute with precision and urgency
- Own your work and your mistakes
- Ask questions when clarity is needed
- Raise issues early, not late
- Grow quickly and contribute meaningfully
- Understand that in settlement operations, your work protects the firm and our clients—and we take that seriously
If you're looking for a role where you can learn fast, solve real problems, and build a foundation for a strong career in financial operations—this is it.
