The Custody Transformation Team develops and migrates applications and services for Custody-related functionalities using a modern, cloud-native technology stack. We are seeking a Senior User Interface (UI) Developer with strong data and event-driven design skills to help implement our next-generation Custody technology platform. This is a delivery-focused role spanning design, engineering, implementation, and quality — with real ownership and impact from day one.

Our distributed development team collaborates closely across four global hubs: Pune, London, Belfast.

What you’ll do

• End-to-end delivery — Own and deliver full-stack UI features from design through to production, working across the complete software development lifecycle in an Agile environment.
• Business collaboration — Partner closely with Business Operations and Product teams to design and deliver the next generation of Custody UI screens, translating complex workflows into intuitive interfaces.
• UI strategy & guild leadership — Help shape the UI strategy within Custody Technology as a senior member of the UI Guild, driving standards, patterns, and best practices across the team.
• Architecture & design — Contribute to system and solution architecture decisions, collaborating with UX experts during design phases to ensure scalable, accessible, and performant front-end solutions.
• Technical leadership — Provide technical and functional expertise to the team; proactively identify and communicate project risks with sufficient lead time to protect delivery commitments.
• Mentoring & knowledge sharing — Coach and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, code quality, and engineering excellence across the distributed team.
• CI/CD & DevOps practices — Contribute to and maintain CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments, and infrastructure-as-code practices using Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• AI-augmented development — Leverage Citi's AI tools (CoPilot, Squad AI, Stylus, Citi Assist) to enhance productivity, code quality, and delivery velocity as part of the Engineering Excellence programme.

What we’ll need from you

• Frontend expertise — Proven experience building responsive, scalable web applications using React.js (or Angular), with strong command of JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Event-driven architecture — Solid understanding of event-driven design principles and experience integrating front-end applications with messaging systems such as Kafka or IBM MQ.
• Testing proficiency — Experience with front-end test frameworks (Jest, Mocha, React Testing Library) and a strong understanding of TDD/BDD practices, working closely with analysts on user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Containerisation & cloud-native — Hands-on experience writing and deploying services as containers to a Kubernetes environment (e.g. Red Hat OpenShift), with familiarity with Docker and Helm.
• DevOps & CI/CD — Understanding of DevOps automation tools and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub, Maven); experience with secrets management (e.g. HashiCorp Vault) is a plus.
• Code quality & clean code — A genuine passion for writing clean, maintainable, well-documented code; experience with code review practices and engineering excellence standards.
• AI tool adoption — Experience using AI-powered developer tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot or similar) to enhance productivity, code quality, and delivery speed.
• Collaboration & communication — Demonstrated ability to work effectively in distributed, cross-geography teams; clear and concise written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience

• Master’s degree preferred
