Business Overview / Position Objective
Citigroup Global Markets Japan (CGMJ) is seeking a candidate to join its Markets Operations Fixed Income Middle Office organization in our Rates Middle Office team. This role will have a close interaction with various businesses, mainly the Tokyo-based Rates trading desks which deals Interest Rate Swaps, Swaptions, JGBs, along with an extensive range of Structured Products. Prior Middle Office experience, especially in Rates Derivatives is strongly preferred. We are looking for a candidate who already is, or is interested in becoming, a Rates Middle Office expert, who is detail orientated, can communicate well, can work successfully with others as a team and who can take initiative to solve problems & find solutions by working closely with their colleagues, the business and other support and control teams.
This person will work closely with the various cross-asset Middle Office teams, the Front Office (traders and sales people), IT, Finance, Operations, and Compliance, and be responsible for ensuring that the trades are captured correctly in the Front Office risk management / trade capture systems, monitoring and ensuring trades are successfully processed, and performing controls & checks which are key Middle Office tasks. The team also interacts daily with other global teams at Citi, as well as across the industry, so the role provides great opportunity for exposure and growth.

The candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in various future projects including the implementation and support of new regulation, automation/digitization, new trading initiatives and systems.
Position Responsibilities
- Ensure that deals are captured correctly in the booking system, by performing trade validations / reconciling deal recaps; coordinating with Traders, Sales as well as Brokers.
- Coordination of lifecycle events and trade management for our portfolio of trades, for the Rates trading desk and structured desk
- Perform reconciliations, investigate breaks, and ensure that all breaks are resolved accurately and in a timely manner. Our controls are key to support our business and clients.
- Check daily regulatory reports, eg. Mandatory Clearing, and take necessary actions to avoid regulatory breaches
- Continually seek ways to enhance existing processes and/or develop robust control procedures for any new requirements identified to ensure appropriate processes are in place. We are always keen for new ideas and improved ways of handling our tasks, so innovative minds are welcome.
- Work closely and effectively with immediate team colleagues, the business and other support functions to provide a high standard of support to an active Rates business & their clients.
- Timely escalation of issues to Middle Office management.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Product Knowledge: Derivative Knowledge preferred from at least one asset class ( e.g. Rates ).
- Communication: Excellent interaction skill to communicate with multi-function departments.
- English Communication: (advanced to fluent verbal and written level – above TOIEC 850). Fluency in Japanese language, both written and spoken required
- Experience: Finance middle office or operations role experience preferred or Junior but with motivation for career to grow in finance operational role
- Organization: Strong organization and multi-tasking skills. Flexibility to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities along with a desire to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines.
- Analytical: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to research an issue across sources to identify plans to deliver. A high level of attention to detail. An ability to pick up and learn systems, trade flows and concepts quickly.
- Interpersonal: Excellent interpersonal skills to develop relationships both internally and externally to collaborate effectively. Has a good potential for becoming a team leader in the future and motivate for self-learning, and good team player
- Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of Excel preferred.
- Language Skills: Business level English and Japanese required.
Required Licenses
- Preferred: JSDA Registered Representative (Internal Control Manager or Class I preferred).
