Job Overview

Digital S/W Eng Lead Analyst (Angular & Frontend Specialist)

The Digital S/W Eng Lead Analyst (Angular & Frontend Specialist) is a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments within own field and contributes to directional strategy by considering their application in own job and the business. Recognized technical authority for an area within the business, specifically focusing on advanced Angular development, frontend architecture, and UI/UX best practices. Requires basic commercial awareness. There are typically multiple people within the business that provide the same level of subject matter expertise. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Significant impact on the area through complex frontend deliverables. Provides advice and counsel related to frontend technology or operations of the business. Work impacts an entire area, which eventually affects the overall performance and effectiveness of the sub-function/job family in terms of user experience and client-side application delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for executing and driving results on large-scale frontend efforts or multiple smaller frontend efforts, serving as a development lead for most medium and large projects with a strong emphasis on Angular-based single-page applications and responsive user interfaces. This includes expertise with frontend application development methodologies and standards for program analysis, UI/UX design, Angular coding, frontend testing (unit, integration, end-to-end), debugging, and deployment of client-side applications.

  • Accountable for exhibiting a strong understanding of client core business functions and translating them into robust, user-friendly, and scalable Angular frontend solutions.

  • Required to support situations in which end-user consultation is critical to identify UI/UX specifications and functional requirements for client-side applications, and incorporate them into overall frontend system design, component development, and delivery. Additionally, utilize comprehensive knowledge of modern web development, particularly the Angular ecosystem, to achieve technological objectives for the user interface.

  • Independent work style, requiring little or no guidance by more senior frontend developers. Decisions will make a significant, measurable impact on the business goals for the client organization by delivering high-quality, performant, and maintainable Angular applications. During team discussions, you will play a significant role with TPMs and engineering managers to determine potential risks to a schedule, especially concerning frontend dependencies, browser compatibility, and performance.

  • Assist in the planning and managing of Angular application development assignments generally involving large budgets, cross-functional projects, or multiple projects focused on client-side experiences. This includes effectively understanding and analyzing both technical and business risks and impact, particularly for complex frontend architectures and user interactions.

  • Expected to effectively communicate those risks to the business owners, so that they can make informed decisions regarding frontend feature development, UI/UX enhancements, and technical debt specific to the client-side.

  • Accountable for providing guidance on architecturally significant frontend efforts during the preplanning phase, and ensuring Angular principles, best practices, and UI/UX standards are followed prior to initiation of work. In doing so, closely watch and evaluate Digital roadmaps, including impacts to support upcoming user journeys and the adoption of new frontend technologies.

  • Publish design review extensions specifically for Angular applications, and provide documented guidance aligned to sprint plans and timelines for frontend deliverables.

  • Be part of the design review board that will focus on the design process for frontend systems, search for generic Angular patterns (e.g., component patterns, state management with NgRx, micro-frontends), and, at the same time, share best practices across the organization for client-side development.

  • Publish Angular design patterns across lines of business and domain commonalities. Drive design reviews for Next Gen Architecture (NGA) and Plan of Record (POR) projects, supporting frontend design principles and best practices for Angular solutions.

  • Participate in NGA Angular code reviews, ensuring adherence to frontend coding standards, performance, accessibility, and best practices.

  • Empower SDEs and their teams by mentoring and coaching on advanced Angular development techniques, frontend architecture patterns, UI performance optimization, and responsive design.

  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the business domain, the client-side systems, and the Angular products in your space. Understand their accountabilities, boundaries, limitations, scale factors, and the reasons behind frontend architectural decisions.

  • Provide a long-term perspective for frontend technology choices; using technical judgment to vet Angular architecture as required.

  • Able to direct teams on how to develop and deliver Angular systems that are efficient with client-side resource usage such as browser performance, load times, memory requirements, and optimized bundle sizes.

  • Responsible for broader frontend design decisions and development of long-term strategies that significantly influence the Angular development process and client-side standards.

  • Accountable for Design Reviews of Agile and Plan of Record (POR) projects specifically for Angular frontend architectures, as well as accountable for Code Reviews of Next Gen Architecture (NGA) Angular frontend projects. Expected to elaborate, promote, and communicate Design Patterns applicable to NGA architectures and solutions within the Angular ecosystem.

  • Accountable for providing architectural guidance to the SDEs based on Angular best practices and in alignment with CTO guidelines and frontend platform standards.

  • Drive clarity and work with complete independence as business and/or frontend technical strategy is not defined, especially in rapidly evolving frontend technologies.

  • Provide the corresponding Angular architectural guidance, and conduct design reviews and code reviews based on the frontend projects assigned to your LOB. The product definition and backend technical planning are out of scope.

  • Accountable for the overall frontend strategy and for driving the teams inside and outside of your organization to deliver expected user-facing results. Drive mindful discussion with business and technical stakeholders that lead to timely decisions, especially concerning frontend capabilities, user experience, and UI delivery. Participate in discussions to drive smart trade-off decisions that balance efforts, delivery timelines, frontend features, and technical constraints. Identify and remove blockers and always find the path forward in challenging situations.

  • Create plans that have a clear path to frontend delivery. Solve for dependencies between agile and waterfall delivery efforts, particularly for frontend integration with backend APIs. Help your teams organize for delivery while maximizing resources for the greater good of the Digital organization's client-side offerings. Understand engineering best practices and apply best practices to the software development lifecycle (SDLC) for Angular development.

  • Accountable for Design Reviews for Citi Agile and POR projects, particularly for Angular frontend applications, as well as Code Reviews for the NGA projects. Accountable for providing architectural guidance to the SDEs based on Angular best practices and in alignment with CTO guidelines and frontend platform. Elaborate, promote, and communicate Design Patterns applicable to NGA Angular architectures and solutions.

  • Elaborate, bring, and communicate clear metrics on Frontend Design Reviews, Angular Code Reviews, CI/CD for client-side applications, and Angular Design Patterns adoption.

  • Communicate progress, anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, identify, assess, track, and mitigate issues/risks at multiple levels, particularly those impacting frontend delivery and user experience. Recognize discordant views and take part in constructive dialog to resolve them.

  • Demonstrate the ability to implement continuous improvement and the induction of new frontend technology, frameworks (like new Angular versions), and development tools. Demonstrate examples of influence in scrum teams beyond your own area of frontend focus.

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency, especially regarding client-side security and data handling.

Recommended Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years of relevant experience in a frontend Apps Development role, with significant focus on Angular (2+ preferred) or senior level experience in an Enterprise Architecture role with subject matter expert in frontend architecture and the Angular ecosystem.

  • Exhibit expertise in all aspects of frontend technology by understanding broader patterns and techniques as they apply to Citi’s internal and external cloud platforms (AWS, PCF, Akamai) for deploying and serving robust Angular applications.

  • Lead resources and serve as a functional SME across the company through advanced knowledge of Angular concepts (e.g., RxJS, NgRx, component-based architecture, lazy loading, performance optimization, server-side rendering/hydration), data structures as applied to UI, interaction with distributed systems from the client side, networking (HTTP/S, WebSockets), and use of knowledge and experience to lead, architect, and drive broader adoption forward within the frontend domain.

  • Acquire relevant technology and financial industry skills (AWS, PCF related to frontend deployment) and understand all aspects of NGA frontend technology – including innovative approaches and new opportunities within the Angular framework and modern web development practices.

  • Demonstrate knowledge on automating Angular code quality (e.g., ESLint, Prettier), code performance (e.g., Lighthouse, Webpack Bundle Analyzer), unit testing (e.g., Jest, Karma), integration testing (e.g., Angular Testing Library), and end-to-end testing (e.g., Cypress, Playwright) and build processing in the CI/CD pipeline specifically for frontend applications.
