Job Overview

The Applications Development Intermediate Programmer Analyst is an intermediate level position responsible for participation in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to applications systems analysis and programming activities.

Finance Desk Technology is part Citi’s Markets Technology. The Team works closely with the Citi Global Finance Desk. The suite of Finance Desk applications provides position management, trade capture, electronic trading, market risk processing and reporting.  This is supported by a mixed technology environment consisting of client-server applications, developed in Java, Angular and C#, with services running on Linux servers and Cloud Containers. This provides unique opportunity to work closely with the business stakeholders while building towards the strategic technology roadmap. We are looking for technically strong candidates who can work as team players and capable of taking ownership and leading the initiatives when needed.

Responsibilities:

• Utilize knowledge of applications development procedures and concepts, and basic knowledge of other technical areas to identify and define necessary system enhancements, including using script tools and analyzing/interpreting code
• Consult with users, clients, and other technology groups on issues, and recommend programming solutions, install, and support customer exposure systems
• Apply fundamental knowledge of programming languages for design specifications.
• Analyze applications to identify vulnerabilities and security issues, as well as conduct testing and debugging
• Design, build, and maintain automation frameworks for CI/CD, infrastructure provisioning, and application deployments.
• Automate environment creation, configuration, and teardown across development, testing, and production.
• Serve as advisor or coach to new or lower level analysts.
• Develop reusable automation modules, templates, and internal tools to improve engineering productivity.
• Integrate security tools into automated pipelines.
• Champion automation-first culture and help teams adopt DevOps best practices.
• Analyze bottlenecks and continuously improve system reliability, deployment speed, and operational efficiency.
• Ability to identify manual processes and convert them into automated, scalable workflows.
• Produces high-quality documentation for automation frameworks, runbooks, and standards.
• Implement automated test gates (smoke, regression, security, performance) to ensure build quality.
• Automate creation, configuration of test environments.
• Build automated data provisioning scripts and synthetic test data generators.
• Embed QA automation early in the development cycle (“shift-left testing”).
• Create automated suites for microservices and APIs, including contract testing with tools like PACT.
• Automate performance, load, and stress testing pipelines
• Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science / Information Technology or a related field, or substantial practical experience of software delivery.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in Application Development, DevOps and Automation roles.

Technical Skills Required:

• Strong experience with Unix or Linux.
• Experience with frameworks like Hibernate, Junit, Spring Boot/Microservice-style application development.
• Strong experience in automation scripting (Python/Java/TypeScript/PowerShell/Bash).
• Strong experience with Relational Databases like Oracle, MSSQL.
• Experience with build tools like Maven/Gradle, Jenkins, UDeploy
• Experience with cloud based architectures on OpenShift Kubernetes.
• Testing and automation experience with distributed software applications.

Non-Technical Skills Required:

• Experience in working with distributed teams situated globally in different time-zones is a plus.
• Flexible and adaptive, team player.
• Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to take ownership, drive strategy and well organized.
