Credit Review Senior Officer II - Global Special Assets
Global Risk Review (GRR) provides independent, objective, reliable, valued, and timely assurance to the Boards, the Committees, the Citigroup Chief Risk Officer, the Citigroup Chief Credit Officer, senior management and regulators over the effectiveness of credit risk management and collateral risk management, and the ability of the Business and independent Risk Management to identify, monitor and mitigate current and emerging risks across Citigroup and Citibank.
The Director, Credit Review Senior Officer II manages independent review of complex Wholesale entities / credit portfolios, such as Corporate Bank Leveraged Finance, Global Special Assets, and Global Derivatives & Securities Financing Transactions (DSFT) and provides credible challenge to senior business teams. The role requires thorough understanding of regulatory requirements specific to these types of portfolios / credits.
Responsibilities include execution of Business Monitoring and Reviews in accordance with the GRR Manual, monitoring, evaluation of strategies and credit risks, assessment of the effectiveness of credit risk management of assigned complex portfolios, proposal of pragmatic solutions to risk and control issues, and maintaining ongoing contact with a Review Entity’s management through continuous Business Monitoring and corrective action follow-up where applicable.
Key responsibilities:
Manage complex BICR Review Entities through quarterly Business Monitoring and periodic Reviews
Assess the quality of assigned portfolios and relationships, including identification and evaluation of emerging risks
Assessment of the quality and adequacy of credit analysis and exposure analysis as well as accuracy and appropriateness of risk ratings and classifications of credit relationships
Assessment of the effectiveness of the credit risk processes and standards of assigned Review Entities to promote leading practices and identify opportunities for improvements
Assessment of Business and Risk staffing levels to determine the effects on assigned Review Entities
Preparation of Credit Assessment Documents in accordance with and at the quality standards required by the GRR Manual and Review Guides
Approval of relationship-level file testing prepared by BICR Credit Reviewers
Evaluation of the appropriateness of Corrective Action Plans (“CAPs”) resulting from Reviews or Business Monitoring
Provide guidance on CAPs implementation to help ensure a successful validation after implementation by the Business
Accountability for the quality and consistency of work products that include Credit Assessment Documents, Sample Rationale Documents, and Banking and International Credit Reports created for the assigned Review Entities
Support the Segment Head and Global Head of Banking and International Credit Review on segment and/or global tasks
Proactive communication to Segment Head and GRR Senior Management of any concerns and/or emerging risks that may jeopardize the assigned Review Entities
Maintain effective communication with the Business and Independent Risk to ensure a clear understanding of specific requirements for these complex portfolios
Assist in training on various US regulations and credit policies specific to the assigned portfolios
Participate in different senior forums representing BICR as well as in regular meetings with regulators, as required by the BICR Head
Travel Required (15% to 50% depending on Segment)
Knowledge/Experience:
Demonstrable financial services experience including 15+ years of experience in corporate banking and remedial management
Deep and extensive capital markets experience in complex structures enabling an individual to pull deconstruct transactions and understand all the risk points in particular complex derivative transactions and leveraged finance transactions
Work experience in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or similar with credit or financial statement analysis experience
Expert in risk analysis and risk management processes for corporate lending areas including assessment of regulatory classifications and risk ratings
Fully conversant in credit policy matters with proven sound judgment
Advance knowledge of regulatory frameworks or relevant experience in a similar role at another institution is desirable
Skills/Competencies:
Demonstrated history of high ethical standards and discretion in dealing with highly confidential Board and Senior Management material
Proven ability to interact credibly with senior stakeholders as well as senior leaders across the firm
Advanced analytical skills with the ability to identify and communicate root causes and trends as well as to recognize emerging risks
Strong project and time management skills with the ability to successfully handle large review teams and complex reviews
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely to audiences of varying levels of seniority
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and exert influence without direct authority
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Knowledge of Citi's organization and systems preferred
Fluent English Language skills
Senior Credit Officer designation preferred
Qualifications:
B.A. or B.S. degree or higher in business, finance or a related field master’s degree preferred
