Business Development Officer – Escrow & Paying Agent Services
We’re looking for a driven, strategic business development professional to join Citi’s Law Firm Group as a Director focused on Escrow and Paying Agent solutions for law firm clients across its West Markets. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced legal and transactional environments—particularly within M&A, Private Equity, Restructuring, and Litigation—and who can meet the high expectations of law firm deal professionals with speed, clarity, and credibility.
The right candidate brings a deep understanding of escrow and paying agent services, a strong network among top law firms, and fluency in AML/KYC protocols critical to deal execution. Deposit pricing acumen and a comfort level speaking to rate strategies with law firm clients is essential. Most importantly, you must have a bias toward simplifying complexity, delivering streamlined solutions to time-sensitive, deal-focused clients.
You’ll have the backing of a global platform, a collaborative culture, and the opportunity to directly impact one of the highest-growth segments within Citi’s Wealth business.
Key Responsibilities:
Originate new business for Citi’s Escrow and Paying Agent platform by developing strong relationships with attorneys and advisors at elite law firms in the California and West markets.
Serve as a strategic partner and trusted resource to law firm clients advising on complex transactions, including M&A, private placements, litigation settlements, and other deal-related escrow and paying agent needs.
Collaborate closely with internal and external product, operations, compliance, and relationship management teams to deliver seamless end-to-end execution of transactions.
Maintain an active presence in the legal and deal communities through networking, targeted outreach, industry events, and thought leadership in partnership with Wealth Teams.
Serve as a brand ambassador for Citi Wealth's broader Law Firm Group, identifying cross-sell opportunities and working collaboratively with partners across banking, lending, and wealth management.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years of business development experience, ideally within escrow, paying agent, M&A advisory, legal services, or transaction banking.
Deep familiarity with the California legal market, particularly law firms advising on M&A and private equity transactions.
Strong network and a proven track record of originating and closing complex, relationship-driven business.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with sophisticated legal and financial professionals.
Strategic thinker with a high level of initiative, independence, and accountability.
Bachelor’s degree required; JD, MBA, or other relevant advanced degree is a plus.
