The AI Engineer is an intermediate-level position responsible for designing, developing, and deploying artificial intelligence and machine learning systems in coordination with the Technology and Product teams. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to the entire lifecycle of AI/ML systems, from data analysis and model development to production implementation and monitoring.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable AI and machine learning systems, including tasks related to data sourcing, feature engineering, model training, validation, and deployment.
- Conduct feasibility studies for proposed AI solutions, providing estimates on time, computational resources, and potential risks to establish and implement new or revised AI-powered applications.
- Oversee and control all phases of the MLOps lifecycle, including analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation, while providing ongoing operational support for deployed models.
- Utilize in-depth specialty knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modelling to analyse complex business problems and provide evaluations of processes and industry standards.
- Recommend and develop robust security, privacy, and ethical AI measures, including model fairness, explainability (XAI), and bias detection, to ensure successful and responsible system design.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, data scientists, and other technology groups to translate business needs into technical requirements and deliver advanced AI/ML solutions.
- Ensure essential procedures for model governance and data management are followed and help define operating standards and best practices for the AI development lifecycle.
- Serve as an advisor or coach to new or lower-level analysts, acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for AI technologies and methodologies.
- Operate with a limited level of direct supervision, exercising independence of judgment and autonomy in technical decisions.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment, and escalating control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
- Substantial relevant experience in an AI Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, or a similar role.
- Proven experience in designing, building, and deploying machine learning models (e.g., NLP, computer vision, predictive analytics) into production environments.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python and proficiency with major AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
- Hands-on experience with MLOps principles and tools (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow, Docker, Kubernetes) for model deployment, monitoring, and management.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their associated AI/ML services.
- Solid understanding of data structures, data modeling, software architecture, and systems analysis.
- Experience in managing and implementing successful AI/ML projects from conception to production.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements.
- Working knowledge of consulting and project management techniques is a plus.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
