Finance Valuation Control Analyst (Private Equity)

Team/Role Overview:
The Valuation Control Group (VCG) is an independent global group within Product Control responsible for reviewing and reporting positions consistently across all asset classes.
VCG is organized along business lines and clients of the group include Business Heads, Line Product Control, Market Risk, Model Risk, Compliance, Legal Department, Middle Office, Internal Audit, external audit firms and the regulatory bodies in countries impacted by Citi’s footprint. VCG collaborates closely with its client base to ensure complete understanding of business valuation issues and accurate execution of valuation control policy.
The Private Equity team in VCG is responsible for performing independent price verification of non-marketable equity investments and convertible notes and working with partners in strategic investments, controllers, accounting policy, risk and other groups at Citi to perform appropriate controls and ensure the timely and accurate reporting.
What you will do:
Executes controls to ensure effective compliance with policies and standards pertaining to valuation control.
Monitors the global inventory of non-marketable equity investments and convertible notes for completeness and accuracy, performs reconciliations between front office sources, VCG records and Citi systems.
Analyzes and escalates discrepancies across relevant systems, models and documents.
Assists with the production of internal and external reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulators’ requirements and Citi policies.
Engages with partners in Front Office, Controllers, Accounting Policy and Risk globally.
Assists with independent price verification, including research, analysis and financial modeling.
Resolves complex problems or transactions, where expertise is required to interpret policies, guidelines or processes.
Performs other duties and functions as assigned.
What we'll need from you:
2-5 years of finance-related experience, ideally in a valuation, product control, financial control or a related discipline.
Familiarity with financial products and valuation principles would be a strong plus.
Advanced Excel skills.
Strong analytical skills; High volume data analysis background would be a plus.
Understanding of financial statements and basic accounting concepts.
Quantitative background/experience would be a great asset.
Strong communication, influencing, presentation and leadership skills with experience of presenting to large audiences with multiple participants.
Excellent interpersonal skills – able to deal with a range of senior/junior staff across within the Firm.
Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
Proficiency in any of these would be an advantage but is not required: VBA, SQL, Data management software, S&P Cap IQ, iLevel, Python.
Fluent English with strong verbal and written communication skills at minimum B2 level.
Education:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any finance, economics or quantitative related subject.
