The Senior Corporate Finance Banker is a senior-level position responsible for assisting clients in raising funds in the capital markets, as well as in providing strategic financing advisory for acquisition finance and other types of financial transactions in coordination with the Institutional Banking and Capital Markets Origination (CMO) teams. The Senior Banker also serves as a Corporate Finance Subject Matter Expert for the Commercial Bank providing internal coordination and guidance to insure proper client advisory and coverage.  The overall objective of this role is to act as strategic advisor to our clients by formulating financing strategies and creating industry content that ultimately results in a successful corporate capital raise. 

The job requires a broad and comprehensive understanding of the various corporate capital raising options as well as a deep experience advising and negotiating with clients.  Requires a thorough understanding of how corporations make strategic and financing decisions, combined with a solid conceptual and practical grounding in how the bank can best support our clients.  Excellent communication skills required in order to influence a wide range of audiences. The job will require both internal and external negotiations the result of which will have a major impact on both the bank and our clients.  Has authority to negotiate and make independent decisions on issues/activities that may have a critical impact or influence on company revenues, capital or business operations.

The position will report to Head of Citi Commercial Banking (CCB - Asia South, Japan, Asia North and Australia clusters).


Responsibilities:

  • Understand regional and emerging market trends to identify growth opportunities, anticipate obstacles and communicate a forward-looking vision that is responsive to changes in the environment
  • Lead in the origination, structuring, and execution of transactions and financings and foster and leverage ongoing relationships inside and outside of the organization
  • Partner with CCB Industry Coverage, Investment banking and Capital Market teams to drive and execute episodic transactions with key stakeholders, including Risk and In Business Risk, to properly extend bank capital in adherence to all Citi risk policies
  • Provide sophisticated financial solutions tailored to clients’ needs and act as a content provider on industry and market trends
  • Drives innovation on the solutions we provide clients while structuring deals to balance risk and reward.
  • Serves as strategic advisor to Relationship Manager (RM) and Client
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations,
  • Responsible for actively calling on clients in partnership with RMs and product partners to deepen relationships, proactively owning, responding to and anticipating future needs, challenges or risks, in addition to identifying and pursuing new clients aligned with the bank’s value proposition.
  • Actively originates new deal opportunities with pitch materials incorporating an analysis of capital structure, credit profile, market comparable, and industry research
  • Works with partners to help shepherd internal approvals; articulates financing strategies

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of relevant experience
  • In-depth experience advising clients on debt and capital management
  • Demonstrated ability to balance between internal management and external client time
  • Proven leadership skills and intellectual capability to create client momentum and execute a collective agenda involving multiple products while balancing competing priorities
  • Demonstrated intellectual grasp of corporate industries and ability to anticipate and give corporate finance advice
  • Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master's/MBA degree preferred from a top economics, business, or financial engineering program
