The CTO Engineering Excellence team’s mission is to inspire a culture of excellence in Tech at Citi, and to make developing software more fun and easier for our engineers.  This is done through our popular Productivity Enablement and Tech Talent initiatives; we are passionate about engineers fulfilling their technical career aspirations here at Citi and providing them with the tools and metrics that enable them to demonstrate their expertise and continuous improvements in productivity.

The Productivity Enablement Lead contributes to the design and delivery of this major programme of cultural change across Tech at Citi.  This includes leading a team of engineers, project managers, coaches to drive lasting behaviour change and to promote a culture of continuous improvement in the engineering teams globally.

Major elements of the role include:

  • Driving adoption of strategic technical products that enable engineers to be more productive, such as Github Copilot and Github Enterprise, as well as in-house built tools such as Lightspeed and Release on Demand. 
  • Driving adoption of best practice enablers such as version control, testing automation and CI/CD to improve industry standard DORA metrics used as benchmarks of high performing technical teams.
  • Coaching teams to be agile and make small, incremental, continuous changes for improvement.
  • Supporting the Engineering Excellence talent development framework including our flagship highly selective programmes for top talent engineers.
  • Contributing to developing new technical career paths that help us retain our key engineering talent.

This role is key to the success of the whole Engineering Excellence initiative.  The lead will interact with and influence Managing Directors and Directors across CIO, as well as ensuring they remain well connected to the most junior developers in the teams.

The Productivity Enablement lead will have a background in engineering and a strong desire to drive change and support others.  This role will report to the Head of Engineering Excellence based in London with a matrix reporting line to the Head of Tech, India.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads a small, high performing global team of engineers, project managers and coaches to drive adoption of tools and improvements in productivity.
  • Leads on or participates in strategic technology developments, for example SDLC definition.
  • Contributes to the continual improvement of Engineering Excellence as an active member of the EE Leadership Team.
  • Contributes to the continual development of the DORA productivity metrics implementation.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of productivity initiatives, regularly monitoring progress and making adjustments as needed.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization to ensure alignment and support for productivity initiatives.
  • Leads on or participates in local Tech initiatives as directed by the Head of Tech, India.

Experience:

  • Intimate knowledge of the software development process, ideally from working in and/or running development teams in a banking environment.
  • Proven track record of behavioural transformation, demonstrating the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and navigate complex organization dynamics, with a track record of successfully leading large-scale initiatives.
  • Analytical mindset, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to improve productivity.
