We are looking for an experienced Economist with strong analytical and quantitative skills. Your role will consist of conducting economic research, forecasting macro data, synthesizing results and communicating your findings to clients. You will be a part of an international organization and will have a chance to cooperate closely with colleagues covering other countries.

The position is open in both Czechia and Hungary. We encourage candidates from either location to apply.

Key functions include:

  • Providing forecasts for key macroeconomic variables for Czechia or Hungary

  • Gathering market intelligence via regular interaction with policymakers and other experts

  • Contributing to broader economics research reports

  • Providing support as an emerging market generalist to the Head of EM Economics

  • Communicating Citi economics’ views to both internal and external clients both written, virtually and in-person


Responsibilities:

  • Producing timely commentary on key macro data releases, and also in depth research relevant macroeconomic and political themes that may be of interest to institutional and corporate clients

  • Making contributions on calls on policies that impact markets, such as monetary, fiscal or regulatory policies 

  • Regular interaction (a mix of written, virtual and in-person) with both internal and external clients to market published research views

  • Responding to client requests on macro related requests in a timely and effective manner

  • Organizing meetings with policymakers and experts on behalf of clients

  • Contributing to local and Global publications

  • Providing EM generalist support to the Head of EM Economics

Knowledge/Experience:

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience in economics or financial market research.

Qualifications:

  • At least an undergraduate degree or higher in Economics or related fields with high GPA

  • Strong in English, proficient in Czech or Hungarian

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills

  • Ability to multi-task in a time sensitive environment and with strong attention to detail

  • Self-sufficient in order to lead the local economic product

  • Based locally in Czechia or Hungary

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong writing skills – can organize thoughts logically and succinctly in written form

  • Familiarity with economic and market data sources (for example Haver, Bloomberg etc.)

  • Knowledge of statistical forecasting and modelling tools such as EViews

Candidates applying for this role must be aware that it is a Certified Role, subject to the FCA and PRA Certification Regime.

The Certification Regime is one element of the Individual Accountability Regime which came into effect on 7 March 2016.
